Tracie Walker
What's even better than chocolate chip cookies? Chocolaty Chocolate-Chip Cookies! Sometimes you just want a little extra chocolate, and these delicious cookies will provide that in spades. As a bonus, you can make excellent brownies from the same recipe.

Chocolaty Chocolate-Chip Cookies

Ingredients:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/3 cup margarine or butter, softened
1/3 cup shortening
1 egg
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup baking cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 oz. miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips

1. Heat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Thoroughly combine sugars, margarine, shortening and egg in a large bowl with a hand mixer or in a stand mixer, scraping once or twice.

3. Measure flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl, stirring thoroughly or sifting.

4. Stir dry ingredients in to wet ingredients. Mix well with mixer.

5. Stir in chocolate chips.

6. Lightly spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray.

7. Place round balls of dough, about the size of a ping-pong ball or slightly smaller, about 2 inches apart on the cookie sheet.

8. Place in oven, and bake for about 10 minutes. Cookies should flatten out some and begin to "crinkle" on top. Don't over bake.

9. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.

10. Remove from cookie sheet and let cool thoroughly before serving, or sealing in air-tight container to store.

Using above recipe, proceed through steps 1 - 5.

6. Thoroughly grease a casserole dish - 9 x 13 will give thinner brownies, a smaller dish will give thicker brownies.

7. Pat dough with hands evenly in dish.

8. Bake for 25 minutes. Adjust baking according to thickness of brownies.

9. Remove from oven and let cool thoroughly in pan.

10. When thoroughly cool, cut in squares and serve, or place in air-tight container to store.
