Upon first opening the wrapper of the Chocolove Ginger Crystallized in Dark Chocolate bar I was a bit worried. When I opened the wrapper the bottom of the bar was pretty much smooth. I was a bit leery of that meaning it lacked crystallized ginger pieces. I soon found out that had little to do with the amount of ginger it contained.
I found the Chocolove Ginger Crystallized in Dark Chocolate bar priced at only $2.20 a bar at iHerb.com. It is a lot more expensive than your typical Hershey bar but well priced for more natural category of bars. I was originally attracted to this chocolate bar because of the combination of chocolate and ginger. A favorite store of mine use to sell chocolate covered crystallized ginger and I was hoping this would be similar to what I remember, since the store I use to purchase it at is no longer around.
I will admit I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of ginger pieces this bar contained, at least from the outer look of the bar. It makes the chocolate to ginger ratio ok, fairly pleasant. It still doesn't hit the spot to fulfill the hole my chocolate cover ginger pieces left, but not bad. I would personally prefer slightly bigger pieces of crystallized ginger but I guess it did say pieces and not chunks.
I am disappointed in the size of crystallized ginger within the bar. I would have preferred bigger pieces. There were way too many bites taken that seemed were just chocolate or chocolate with a tiny piece of ginger that was too small to really balance the chocolate out. I found myself eating another piece just so I could hopefully get a nice combination I was craving. It never fully lived up.
The Chocolove Ginger Crystallized in Dark Chocolate has a cocoa content of 65%. It is not too bitter but might be a bit of a change for milk chocolate lovers who have never taken a dip into the dark chocolate realm.
The Chocolove Ginger Crystallized in Dark Chocolate bar is 3.2 ounces and there are 3 servings per bar and the bar is preshaped into easy to break off squares. Each serving is 160 calories and 10 grams of fat. It is vegan and made with Belgian chocolate.
I really like this bar but I don't think it will be high on my list of favorite Chocolove bars. The dark chocolate was really nice slightly tangy and the ginger sweet and spicy. Even though it is not my first choice I would never turn one down if offered.
Ingredients: Dark chocolate (cocoa liquor, sugar, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, vanilla) crystallized ginger.
