The drug, statin, is better known by such names as Crestor. You have likely heard of the drug on commercials. It is very helpful to people to prevent possible heart disease. As with any drugs, there are risks associated with taking it. One of the possible risks is that of diabetes. Diabetes is a very serious health issue that requires lifestyle changes and which could eventually destroy the health of your body to include kidney failure. That is why it is extremely important to talk to you doctor about whether or not Crestor (statin) is right for you. According to WebMD, the risk is about 9% higher for Type 2 diabetes. This may sound like a small percentage and in some cases may not alter the fact that statin has huge benefits for it's users, for those who are already at high risk for diabetes, the risk can be deadly.
The risk for getting Type 2 diabetes from using Crestor (statin) is low in comparison to the number of benefits it provides to those who might otherwise have a heart attack. Both diseases can be life threatening if not properly treated and the choice as to whether you should take the drug or not could completely depend on which disease is the higher threat to you personally. This can be a difficult choice but one worth considering before starting to take the cholesterol lowering drug, statin.
Knowing what your cholesterol levels are and what you can do to naturally lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol is a good place to start. Cholesterol can be a very confusing entity but one that we must understand in order to get to healthy levels on both the good and bad cholesterol levels. There may come a time that your doctor will prescribe the drug Crestor (statin) and you should be aware of the possible risk of Type 2 diabetes. Your doctor should be aware if you are already at a high risk for diabetes and will be able to answer any questions that you might have in regards to it.
