Arriving there a little after 4:00 we were immediately seated. The restaurant was busy, but just as the hostess had said it began to get busy after 4:00. And was I glad that we got there when we did. Upon sitting down we were brought salsa and chips. And once we were through with that they brought another basket of chips.
The menu had all sorts of different Mexican dishes but I opted for the two tamale plate that came complete with rice and beans. It was very good, but the rice had some kind of spice to it. My fiancé enjoyed a taco salad with sour cream and guacamole. My son had two huge crunchy tacos.
On the menu they had all kinds of nacho dishes like veggie nachos or a three meat nachos. You could also order their specialty plates like carne asada or could make your own plate by combining burritos, tacos, enchiladas or more. They also offered a horchata, a sweet rice milk drink that is popular in Hispanic culture.
Being as busy as they were, the service was pretty good as we were in and out of the restaurant in under an hour. The price tag plus tip for all three of us was $37. That is not bad considering it was a sit down restaurant and we got three big dishes and drinks.
I like the coziness of Cholo's and the amount of space they have to accommodate people. There are two sections inside the restaurant. One side is a bit enclosed while the other is a little open to the sunlight and breeze. They also offer outside seating if you would rather be in the fresh air. If you get there towards the later evening like 6:30 pm or so, it can be a bit of wait as they are one of the more popular restaurants in Haleiwa. If you are hungry for Mexican food and want good service at a good price then check out Cholo's Mexican restaurant in Haleiwa town.
