Choose the Best Snack in a Pinch

Have you ever gotten so tired in the middle of the day that you wish you could drop your head where you sit? So many times I have found myself feeling just like that and I have to fight off grabbing a quick sugary snack to pick me back up. I recently found out my sons blood sugar levels drop at night sometimes. We needed good healthy snacks to keep me awake and my son from getting sick at night. We have tried many different things and here is our list of favorites.

Snacks for bedtime and anytime:

Peanut butter on crackers, bread, or apples. We prefer a snack with peanut butter because it seems to work the best for us.

Cheese on crackers or small tortilla's. This is a good substitute if you do not like peanut butter or do not have any.

Trail mix is a very good one also because you can mix it yourself and you just about anything you want like: pretzels, dried fruit, nuts or sunflower seeds, a granola bar in pieces, etc.

Yogurt with fresh fruit. We all eat this as a healthy afternoon snack. The sweetness of the fruit and creaminess of the yogurt satisfies any craving.

Vegetables cut and sliced pairs nicely with salsa or low-calorie salad dressing.

Three cups of natural popcorn or a low-calorie popcorn.

Some tips to remember:

Take your time to eat. Always take a few minutes to let your food settle before you go back for seconds.

When you don't have a lot of time do not skip meals.

Prepare snack sized sandwich bags with your trail mix mixture, pretzels, crackers, nuts, granola bars or dried fruit for emergencies or quick craving crunchers.

Always plan ahead when you are going on road trips. Have things readily available for sudden sugar drops or long spans of road between towns.
