First, do not choose a huge and cumbersome Halloween costume. Do not try to wear a large card board box for a Halloween costume. You can't sit comfortably while wearing a box. You also can't drive while wearing one. God forbid an emergency should come up and you have to run or get of the way quickly. You can't. You are wearing a box. You are lucky if you can even fit through a door. How are you going to go into the Halloween party that you have been looking forward to all year, if your costume won't fit through the door? You can't. Don't even try it. Don't even think about it. No dice! Get it? Good. We are going to simplify. Read on.
Do not try to wrap your body up in tin foil or gauze. You can't move freely and this can be a serious health hazard. Do not wear costumes with too long dangling things, as they can get caught in car doors, house doors, sliding glass doors and other problem areas. If you are planning on drinking alcohol while wearing your Halloween costume, you need to think about being comfortable and safe. For instance, do not wear ten inch spike high heels if you normally are not used to walking around in them. Who wants a broken ankle on Halloween night? No one. Remember when wearing masks, make sure that you can actually see out of them. Before you run into a wall, walk in front of a car or fall down. Always make a test run in your costume before leaving the house.
Now, for what you should do. You should choose comfortable Halloween costumes. Keep it simple. Wal Mart and Rite Aid sell really affordable Halloween costumes. They are cute! They come with dress and head wear. They come with costume and mask. You can always easily dress these cheap cool costumes up with accessories. Then, you will be comfortable and safe. Also, if you live in an area where it gets cold on Halloween night, prepare for it. Make sure that you can put a coat on over your costume. Halloween is an outdoor event, usually and you want to be warm and comfortable. Not stupid. And cold. You can still wear a cool costume, just prepare for the weather and fun.
Choose comfortable Halloween costumes. You will have more fun on Halloween night, I promise. You will also be safer. That point is important. From a trench coat and hat to a long black dress and a pointed witch's hat, you can still make Halloween night a fright. Comfortably. Fun, easy and safe Halloween costumes. They rule! Have a very happy and safe Halloween!

Good advice. We have had a few cold trick-or-treat nights because there was too little costume for an Iowa October!
