Truth be told you want truly know until you begin to see how the aide is performing, but a good start is work reference. Contacting the patients that she has previously work for in the past can give you a great deal of information. You need to feel good with the decision that you make. Being respectful and comfortable with the person is a must. There are ways to making you feel better about the hiring process. Note that communication is a major thing you have to be very frank when during an interview.
Knowing exactly what's expected of the aide needs to be discuss very clearly. Scheduling and timing needs to also be discussed at interview time. For a example if the aide will be unable to work days over the weekend this needs to already be understood. After deciding on an aide the communication has to be established cause this is very important in the beginning. Unfortunately you have to be alert of any abuse or neglect because not all aides are good aides. It has been known that some aides will neglect or abuse your love one and sometimes both. Looking for any unexplained bruises, burns, or injuries can be a sign of abuse. Unclean living area, weight loss, and poor hygiene can be a sign of neglect so be aware. In a case that your love one is unable to talk then using a hidden camera can be a great option. This will allow you to still see the events that take place in your home when you are not there. In the beginning this will also make you feel more secure and safe knowing that you will be able to keep track of what's happening.
Another thing that need to be address is an open relationship and the do and don't in the home when you are not there. Be sure that the aide know the rules, but never give your aide unreasonable responsibilities. Note that you are hiring a aide not a maid. Lastly be sure that your love one feel secure and safe when under the care of the aide that you hire. This is really important because your love one is the person that will be spending the most time with the aide. Know from your love one that they are being treated with respect and getting the care that they need. If in any way that your aide loses your trust and confidence there is no need to hang on and risk the health of your love one the best decision to make is to replace the aide. Remember to always be aware of who you allow in your home.
