Many users of cell phones are deciding to go with pre-pay or pay as you go plans. I agree with this completely, as I've been ripped off by phone companies on multiple occasions with post-pay plans. My service providers have claimed that I was "on the Internet" or "sending text messages" while, when I checked my phone, I had no access to the Internet, or had not sent any text messages ever since recieving the phone.
Save yourself now and go with a pre-pay or pay as you go phone. You won't have to worry about extra taxes, and surcharges, as well as these "additional use" features, which you'll more than likely find yourself being charged for regardless of whether or not you actually use them.
Now that you've decided to go with a pre-pay or pay as you go phone, you still have many options, as more and more companies are starting to offer these types of plans, because many more people are interested in these plans today.
I've browsed through many of the pre-pay options, but if you see that I've forgotten to list a specific company, I appologize, and it may be that they're just not really even comparable to the other companies I've listed in this article. This was made to get you the best deal and the best service, not to waste your time reading misleading information.
T-Mobile offers prepay service, and their plans for pre-pay can be found here http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/. As you see, the minutes are a bit high with tmobile, but you're also going to get the reliable customer service as well as decent coverage in most areas due to the fact that they're partners with many other major phone services. If you're someone who demands great customer service, T-Mobile may be the way to go, I've had them before, and their wireless service is pretty exceptional.
Virgin Mobile is quite controversial. I personally think that their rates are quite high. You can view their plans for minutes here http://www.virginmobileusa.com/rates/minute.do as well as their plans for by-month pre pay here http://www.virginmobileusa.com/rates/month.do. If you've read other articles concerning additional surcharges and taxes about Virgin Mobile, forget it. This is a prepay plan and you won't have to deal with these charges. However, I strongly recommend checking out Virgin Mobile's coverage at http://www.virginmobileusa.com/coverage/prepareCoverage.do. Their coverage is quite unreliable, and I wouldn't recommend trying them if you plan to travel or your area isn't excellently covered on the map.
AT & T (or Cingular, if you're lost; AT & T is their new name) has some of the best reception across all plans. I never have lost a call while using their service, and neither has anyone else I've spoken with. Their pre-pay service is known as a "go phone" and the rates for this plan are strictly ridiculous. View Go Phone options here http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/go-phones/gophone-options.jsp?wtSlotClick=1-0016EU-0-2&WT.svl=calltoaction. As you can clearly see, the rates are horrible. You'll be paying a dollar per day you use the phone (30 dollars a month) plus 10 cents a minute (the same flat rate as net10, without any additional charges). So why not just go with a plan that charges a flat rate of 10 cents per minute like Net10? Of course, AT&T will offer you the most reliable service. If it's service you seek, this may be the way to go. Please note that AT&T also offers pay as you go plans, here http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-plans/pyg-cell-phone-plans.jsp?wtSlotClick=1-0016EU-0-1&WT.svl=calltoaction. In this case, there will be no daily fee, but you'll be paying 25 cents per minute, which is also extremely high.
I personally recommend getting an Alltel prepay phone service. Their pay-by-day service is definitely the best service available. Plans start at 22.50 a month (75 cents per day) which would give you unlimited nights and weekends, as well as unlimited text! This is definitely a great deal, as you can choose to get features like unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited calling to one number, unlimited nights and weekends, or unlimited text. Pay for what you use. The minutes are only 10 cents a minute, which is quite low with the extra features. The coverage is great as well!
Good luck choosing your phone! I hope I've helped clear up a few of your options!
