What to Look For When Choosing an Email Host - Spam Protection
The first thing you will want to look at is what kind of spam protection the web host will provide. This day and age, spam is not on the rise, it is full blown. I use a couple of email hosts and I will tell you, I get over 30 spam emails in one given day. So, finding out what type of spam protection they can offer you is a plus.
Some email hosts have a special folder built in to your other folders for the spam to go. They have a spam protection software running on their server which will pick up 99% of the spam and put it in that folder. You can, however, view the spam folder to make sure nothing important gets placed in that folder. But, the spam folder will keep your inbox from being filled up.
What to Look For When Choosing an Email Host - Can You Flag Spam?
This somewhat goes along with the above "What to Look For". Some email hosts that run spam protection software also have a button where you can flag spam. If you get an email in your inbox that is spam and the spam protector didn't catch it, you can select that email and click the Flag as Spam button or link. From then on, any email sent from that person will automatically be placed in the spam folder. The spam protection software is normally good, but every now and again, one will slip through.
What to Look For When Choosing an Email Host - Amount of Disk Space Available
The next thing you will need to look for is the amount of disk space that is available. If you are looking for an email to run your business from, chances are, you will receive a lot of email. So, you will want to check and see how much disk space is offered before signing up for an account. The more disk space, the better. You can find out how much disk space the email host offers by reading the FAQ section, or something along those lines.
Email Hosts with Great Spam Protection
Yahoo is a great email host that offers great spam protection. I use Yahoo and rarely ever does spam get in my inbox. The spam email is automatically placed in the spam folder. This script is so good, it sometimes places my emails from my friends in it. So, you will have to check the spam folder too. But, you can add your friends to your contact list and it will not place it in the spam folder anymore.
Hotmail is another great email host. It too has great spam protection. Hotmail has a folder called Junk. The Junk folder is where the spam will be placed.
