Having a privacy fence in your yard is a great way to create a play space for your children and pets. When it comes choosing a fence, there are several different fence materials to pick from, each with their own pros and cons that one should consider each before choosing a fence. Several popular fence materials include: wooden fences, vinyl fences, chain link fences, steel fences, and barbed wire fences.

Choose Fencing Materials - Barbed Wire Fences
Choosing a fence that is made out of barbed wire maybe ideal if you are a farmer; however it doesn't make much sense if you're not. Barbed wire will keep animals in. Barbed wire is also dangerous, and not recommended if you have children or don't own a farm.

Choose Fencing Materials - Wooden Fences
Wooden Fences make an attractive addition to any yard. One of the "American dreams" is to own a house with a white picket fence. There are several different types of wooden fences to choose from, and there are also many different ways of protecting it, including: pressure treating, staining, and painting.

Choose Fencing Materials - Vinyl Fences
One of the upsides to owning a Vinyl fence is that it can look just as good as a painted wooden fence, if not better. Another benefit of using vinyl for fence materials is that a vinyl fence requires less maintenance than a wooden fence.

On the flip side of the coin, vinyl fences can be more expensive to purchase than a wooden fence. Additionally, vinyl fences may be harder to repair than their wooden counterparts because special parts may have to be ordered.

Choose Fencing Materials -- Chain Link Fences
Fencing materials such as a chain link fence provide a quick cost efficient way of enclosing an outdoor space. Unlike other fence materials, a chain link fence requires minimal to no upkeep, and will last quite a while.

Chain link fences are considered unattractive, and can detract from the value of one's home. Buyers will not want to see a chain link fence in the yard when other fence materials could have been used. That is because chain link fences provide no privacy.

Choose Fencing Materials - Steel Fences
Steel fences can be very expensive. Steel fences also require painting and other maintenance in order to keep them from rusting.

Steel fences are very pretty to look at. Steel fences are also very sturdy. Because of the material they are made out of (steel), they will last a long time if properly maintained.
