One of the most important decisions that has to be made during wedding planning deals with the floral arrangements at the ceremony. Choosing the right blooms for your décor, bouquet, and boutonnieres is essential for adding to the beauty of the ceremony as well as staying within a budget. The amount of money you want to spend on flowers as well as the time of year in which the wedding will take place will largely dictate the flowers you can use, so be sure to plan carefully with a local florist. Some silk flowers are even comparable to fresh blooms and you can save money by substituting silk flowers in some areas. Here are some ideas for flowers that will help you get started if your wedding color theme is blue. Blue is a popular color for weddings because it gives a sense of tranquility and the color symbolizes unity.

Blue hydrangeas are popular for weddings because they're simple but elegant and their ball shape makes them versatile for use in bouquets as well as centerpieces. They're typically plentiful between mid-spring and late summer. Blue hydrangeas can be used in conjunction with white flowers, such as lilies, peonies, carnations, or roses to make a beautiful bridal bouquet. A hydrangea bloom in a modern small clear square vase along with lilies and green accent blossoms makes a lovely centerpiece.

Delphinium is hardy perennial which evokes a feeling of country sophistication. Delphinium flowers are another variety which can be found in blue, from lavender to baby blue. Because these plants are taller and have small flowers, they could be trimmed to use in boutonnieres or left longer to accent centerpieces and decorations. Tweedia is most plentiful between April and November. This star-shaped flower is smaller, also making it ideal for a groom's boutonniere.

Because many popular flowers aren't available in blue, such as roses and lilies, many brides will choose to have a florist dye blooms for a specific hue, such as royal blue. A more cost-effective way for a bride to have royal blue flowers might be to search for silk flowers in the desired shade.
