Are you tired of that same old boring haircut and ready for a change? Do you want to 'wow' somebody with the new you but don't know what haircut will look good on you? Then read this article and I will tell you which hairstyles are best flattering to your face type! Now the first question is what face type do I have? There are a lot of different ways to determine your face shape. My favorite is the method where you sit in front of the mirror and use lipstick to out line your face on the mirror. (Do not use a marker!!) Its probably the most easiest to do at home. You could also ask a beautician. They almost always know. Or you could have a friend tell you (not always right).

Oval: The forehead and the jawline are the same width. Think of it kind of like an egg.

Round: The forehead and jawline will be rounded and the cheeks will be fully rounded. This face shape usually will make you look younger then you actually are.

Heart: The forehead will be broad with the chin being narrow, also kind of pointy. This shape is also referred to as a Triangle shape.

Square: This is a common face type it will be the same width for forehead, jawline, and cheeks.

Long: This is a lot like the oval face shape but has a higher forehead and higher cheek bones.

Now for the hairstyles.

The oval face shape is probably the best one to be able to pull off almost any kind of hairstyle that you choose rather it be long hair, short hair or just a long layered look. To be more specific, let's say you wanted to try a wavy long hairstyle. This will enhance your perfect oval features. Be sure to stay away from long bangs or anything that will cover your face.

The key to a perfect hairstyle for a round face is to minimize the roundness of your face. The best cuts are ones that are a little below the chin with soft layers. This will make your face appear slimmer. If you wanted to do bangs, try to keep them long or maybe side swept would be good also. You want to avoid curly short hair, that makes your face seem rounder. Also avoid one length cuts. Adding a little bit of layers does wonders for the round face.

For the heart shape face, you are going to want to draw attention away from your chin. If you have long hair, then you might want to try long layers, this will bring attention to your cheeks. If you wanted to go with a short cut, then you will want to try and keep the top layers long. You don't want short bangs or choppy layers.

The square face has a very prominent jawline. You will want to minimize this as best as you can. Curls are a good choice or you could even get a little crazy and do short spiky cuts. Make sure to avoid bobs and blunt bangs, this will make your face appear a lot more square.

You are going to want to add width to the long face and avoid any haircuts that make your face appear longer. Lets say you want bangs, then the best to have them is at your brow, this will make the face seem shorter. You will definitely want to have a medium or short haircut, which will widen the face a bit. Avoid long cuts and center parts.

Hopefully this will help you in your next trip to the hair stylist!! I know it helps me to be able to tell the stylist exactly what i am wanting. And the stylist probably appreciates it also!!
