Choosing a Photographer for Engagement Pictures

Professional engagement photographs are very popular. They can be used to display your engagement on Facebook, announce your engagement in the newspaper, or even for "save the date" cards. Engagement pictures can be beautiful if they are done by the right photographer. Here are some tips on how to choose a photographer for engagement pictures.

1. Consider using the photographer you want to use for your wedding. If you already have a wedding photographer picked out, you might want to consider hiring them for your engagement pictures as well. The reason is because this can make for a nice "test run" to see how well the photos come out or how willing the photographer is to work with you.

2. Be sure to view the photographer's professional portfolio. Most photographers have portfolios displayed on personal websites or blogs. Ask them to provide you with examples of engagement photographs they have done in the past. This will help give you a good idea of the type of pictures to expect. If they have not done engagement photos, it is ideal to look at photographs that they have shot of couples or for weddings to get an ideal of their potential.

3. Make sure the photographer is willing to work with you. Try to find a few examples of engagement photographs you would like to do, or brainstorm some ideas. If your photographer does not seem to respond well to your suggestions and seems to want to "control" the shoot, they may not be the best choice. On the other hand, if the photographer has shot gorgeous and high quality engagement photos, it may be ideal to trust their opinions.

4. See if they are willing to do multiple locations. An engagement picture photo shoot is best done in various locations to ensure that you get a wide range of shots to choose from. While some photographers may be willing to shoot in several locations, others may not like this idea or may charge you significantly more to do so.

Choosing the right photographer for any aspect of your wedding is very important. Not only do you want the photographers to look beautiful, but it's also to get the most out of your money. The above mentioned tips are just a few of the things that you can do to ensure the photographer that you choose for an engagement photo shoot is the right fit for you.

I agree that it's a good idea to look at the photographer's portfolio before hiring him or her. You wouldn't want to end up with disappointing photos.
