Choosing the Right Airline Bag

One of the best things about a vacation is the planning part for it. Once you are through with that comes the next step - that of packing - which includes taking out that dusty set of luggage, in case you haven't traveled recently. Checking with your airline about any baggage restrictions that might apply is important. It should be top priority on your checklist otherwise or you might be in trouble later on at the airport.

It is best to contact the airline directly over the telephone or visit their website to familiarize yourself with their baggage rules. There are strict rules regarding the size of bags that you can carry on board as cabin baggage. There are some sectors where you can not carry any baggage with you inside the flight. Please check with airline for such restrictions. If you get to know about these rules only at the airport, then you will pretty much be in a lot of trouble.

One of the biggest policy changes that have happened in recent times is regarding locks on your luggage. Due to increasing security concerns all over, most airlines do not allow baggage to be locked. Earlier, you had the convenience of locking your bags and keeping the keys with you, but not any more. This is done so that for some reason if your bags need to be checked before being loaded it is easy for the security personnel to open them. Locks, when used will most probably be cut off in such cases.

It's best to use a twist tie to secure your bags instead. There are some locks in the market that have a key that is universal, but the security guys will most probably not bother to check if that is the case, so it's best not to waste any money buying these.

It also might be a good idea to make your bag look different as much as possible. This is so that it doesn't get lost in the multitude of similar looking bags at an airport. Help your bag stand out with bright neon colored luggage straps. This will help you identify them and also keep thieves away as these will be too obvious a steal.

Make sure to clearly label all your bags both on the inside and outside with your name and of course the address. For your security, use a post box number instead of your home address, but a work address will do just fine too. This will ensure your luggage's arrival at the destination you are going to, without landing somewhere else. Use a tag that has to be opened up to be able to see the address. That way your details will remain hidden from prying eyes.

In order to prevent damage to your bags make sure to remove all kinds of loose hanging straps, which can get caught in the machinery. Following these simple tips can go a long way in making your travel hassle free. So, go ahead and plan your next trip keeping these in mind and always check with the airline beforehand.
