The Basics
First you need to find out what kind of hair and skin you have. There are four main types of hair, which are oily, dry, silky or limp. There are also various skin types - dry, oily, normal to combination and sensitive. Once you know what type of skin and hair you have, you can start looking at beauty products. If you have oily skin, you will not want a moisturizer full of oils. If you have sensitive skin, you will want skin creams which protect against allergens and do not contain potential irritants. When you are choosing hair products, the same applies. If your hair is lank without much volume, you won't want a highly moisturizing heavy conditioner because it will drag it down even more.
You can get free beauty brand advice from a dermatologist or from the internet. A dermatologist can tell your skin and hair types just by looking so that might be your best option. Beauticians can recommend skin products suitable for your skin type. A dermatologist can help if you suffer from skin complaints such as rosacea, too much facial hair or acne. If your problem is medical rather than aesthetic, you should see a dermatologist first.
Beauty Tips
If your doctor or dermatologist give you guidance on a specific beauty brand, it is still a good idea to test it first. You should get a sample of the product and rub it into the inner part of your elbow until it is totally absorbed. Wait for 24 hours to see if any reaction occurs. If there is no skin reaction, it should be a good beauty brand to use on your face. The chemistry of your body alters every seven years at least so it is a good idea to update your products. You might suddenly experience an allergy or rash because of a product you had used without trouble before. Sometimes perfumes can smell different on you from before. This is normal. It might just be time to have a rethink of your beauty brands.
