Choosing the Right Grinding Tool

If you do a lot of home improvement projects around your house, or have a little workshop set up in the basement or garage, chances are you will need a grinding tool at some stage. Here's a look at your options.

Grinding tools are great for all types of grinding. Whether you use it for wood or steel, these tools do the job and do it quickly.

Bench Grinders

As the name implies, a bench grinder sits on a workbench or its own pedestal. It features a large grinding wheel that can be used for grinding rough surfaces or fine grinding.

Uses could include sharpening tools like drill bits or sharpening the blade of your lawnmower, etc. These grinders are very easy to use and do a nice job in sharpening any tool or bit that you need.

Belt Grinders

This type of grinding power tool is very common and used to produce all types of grinding surfaces. You can put on a belt for rough surfaces, one for medium level use, or one for polishing/fine grinding.

Of course, there are also other types of less commonly used tool grinders for home use such as jig grinders, surface grinders and cylindrical grinders.

Safety is always going to be important no matter which type of grinder you are using. Always wear the proper eye protection. I can't stress that enough. It only takes a split second to have a piece of metal fly up and into your eye. Don't take the chance of that happening to you.
