Choosing the Right Home Theater Seating

One of the most important choices to make when building your home theater is the type of home theater seating you want to install. It's one of the more overlooked features which sometimes surprises me, considering that you will want to sit comfortably more than anything else. It doesn't help to have one of the most expensive and technologically advanced home theaters if you can't sit comfortably while watching the movies. Your home theater will be a place where you'll want to wind down after a long hard stressful day of work, so relaxation is key when choosing the right home theater seating.

Everyone's idea of comfortable is different however. This is why picking the right seats can be a difficult decision, as well as a time consuming choice. The way I look at it is that if I am going to spend a lot of money building my theater, I'm going to take as much time as it takes to get it right, so that it appeals to the majority of people who will be using it.

While choosing the right seats, keep certain things in mind, just like when you would be purchasing living room furniture. You'll want seats that are comfortable, offer significant lumbar support for your back, and of course a reclining mechanism that will do the job correctly. I myself prefer a motorized lounger seat, simply because they work the best and add to the whole experience of being relaxed. This may not be a key concern for others, but this is my personal preference. Now if you are on a tight budget and are looking for ways to keep the cost down, a manual type of recliner will be just fine. You may choose to not even install a recliner type seat. It's all up to you and what type of experience you are looking to create. And of course you'll have to adjust features to fit the amount of money that you have to spend.

There are several variations of theater loungers that you can install. This will all depend on the size and space that you have to work with. Most types of home theater seating is sold in 2, 3, 4, and even 5 chair configurations. The most common is the 3 seat configuration, but again you'll have to work with your present design. The construction of each configuration should be an important factor. You'll want to examine what the chairs are made of before making your purchase. There are some incredible deals out there all offering some nice looking discount home theater seating, but you just may end up purchasing a piece of junk.

Home theater seating chairs are usually made of genuine leather and faux leather, available in a variety of colors that can appeal to the theme of your theater. Common construction features will usually include corner blocks that are either screwed or glued together, foam cores, double dowed joints, and kiln dried wood frames. Although not every chair is made with these features, these are some of the common terms you will discover when shopping for your home theater seating.

Some chairs are designed with bass shakers. These shakers allow the seat to resonate along with the soundtrack bass in the movie. I hear varying opinions when it comes to this feature. I think they are awesome because they add to the whole theater experience, adding the ability to feel the audible sounds that match the visual presentations. It's best to try them out before spending the money on them to see if it's something you want to spend extra money on. Don't forget to purchase seating with simple features like cup holders if you plan to enjoy refreshments while watching your movies. Cup holders are a great way to reduce accidents such as spilled drinks. It's best to have this option so that you can protect the new carpeting that you have installed.

There are many decisions to make when making this type of purchase. Always remember to obtain the correct dimensions before actually buying your new home theater seating. There are so many variations and believe there is the perfect theater seat for just about everyone. So keep an open mind, be prepared with proper dimensions, and try out just about a variety of different chairs to see which one is right for you. In the end, you'll be happy that you have spent the extra time trying them out.
