Choosing the Right Supplies for Your Child's Birthday Party

Sarah Rachel
Birthday party supplies for children are creative additions for your child's special day. These supplies are often theme based, meaning the cups, plates and other materials like napkins, spoons and forks have a common matching themes like cowboys or princesses. Your local party supply store, however, has even more elaborate supplies than your standard grocery store. In addition, there are also supplies that go beyond the basics to create the ultimate birthday party for your child.

Favor Boxes

Buy favor boxes at your local party supply store. Favor boxes are a treat for the guests who come to the party. You can make favor boxes for all the children only or a mixture for kids and adults that accompany their child at the party. Fill up these boxes with toys, games or other items you know the kids will love. Avoid buying cheap dollar store items because those prizes often end up in the trash and you want to get your guests something they will enjoy. This will help them remember the party and they will be more likely to come to future parties.

If the party is for your ten year old daughter fill the boxes full of spa products or other preteen items. Many adults may also enjoy these products as well. Other things you could put in a favor box are hair accessories like barrettes, stuffed animals and candies.

Cakes and Candles

Cakes and candles are common party supplies. The type of cake should reflect your child's preferences. For instance, if he likes chocolate cake with white frosting, buy this type of cake. You can also make your own cake or buy cupcakes rather than a large cake. Pirate ship or Sponge Bob cakes are popular options. The candles that go on the cake are also vital. Choose themed candles at the craft store or one large candle with your child's age on it. You can also surround the large candle with several other candles to create more light. Trick candles are also exciting because they light up right after you blow them out, which can create a few laughs at the party as your child tries to blow out stubborn candles.

Costumes

Themed parties can be even more fun, when everyone is involved. Wearing costumes is one way to make your child's party more interesting. This does take some planning, but it is not as hard as you might think. Decide on costumes based on the overall theme of the party. For instance, if your child is having a dinosaur party, then go to your costume supply store and pick out several dinosaur and even a few caveman costumes.

The adults can also dress up as well. These supplies are going to cost you more, but if your creating a very special birthday then the price is worth it. You can also rent costumes or ask each family coming to buy their own costumes. You might be surprised to see what people are willing to do.
