Choosing the Right Type of Bamboo Flooring for Your Home

Scott Kessman

Taking advantage of the ever growing trend for the many different types of bamboo flooring can become a difficult task with so many options available. The first thing that must be considered is the amount of use a floor is going to get; if it is going to be subject to a lot of use then durability is an issue.

Style and durability can be found by making use of the most exotic of all bamboo flooring types; it is the strand woven type made from Moso bamboo. This goes through a boiling process before being dried for a long period; the boiling removes all traces of sugar that can attract termites. When the drying process has been completed, it is treated with adhesive which ensure that this type of flooring is at least twice as strong as any alternative. Due to this strength, it is often used in areas that experience a high volume of foot traffic. There is little, or no waste, with this type of flooring and it is thought to be more moisture resistant than its counterparts. For this reason it is glued or nailed to a sub floor.

If durability is not so important, there are other cheaper alternatives but the varying colors and shades have to be taken into account when a selection is being made. The choice of carbonized bamboo for flooring should be avoided as it is considerably softer than most and could be subject to damage rather easily. Ensuring that you choose the right type of bamboo flooring for your home could take some time but will be time well spent. In addition, your existing décor must be considered before a final choice is made. There is no doubt that bamboo can give a home a unique individual effect but making the wrong choice could have an adverse effect.

With the vast amount of choices of colors and designs available the choices can be difficult however because of this any type of décor can be catered for and the many different types of bamboo flooring can be taken advantage of.
