Choosing School Clothes for Children

Shopping for Children's School Clothes

Any parent who has a child or children in school knows that school clothes are a must-have. So are school shoes. I have four in school. Two in the fourth grade, one in second grade and one in first. The baby will go to school the school year after next. Yeah, I know all about school clothes. Parents want their kids to look great and well cared for when they get on that big yellow bus each morning, or at least they should. School clothes are not play clothes. School clothes are good clothes, unstained and in good shape. Play clothes are old worn out school clothes.

When you shop for children's school clothes you'll want to keep certain things in mind. The first of those things being comfort. Kids do a lot of sitting during the day. Bulky or tight waistbands may be uncomfortable and actually could even cause belly aches. Choose elastic waistbands that are not too tight for the littler ones and good fitting pants for the older ones. Parents that don't require belting to stay up are the most comfortable for older kids.

Style is also a concern amongst children, and with parents as well when it comes to purchasing school clothes. Kids want to look good. They want colorful, fashionable clothing like their friends have. Parents don't have to go broke. Shop at local department stores. You can get a whole lot for a little. Brand names do not matter so much as the "look" when it comes to younger kids.

Safety is yet another thing to consider when selecting your children school clothes. Open toe sandals and flip flops are generally not acceptable as footwear in school because they do not protect the feet. Children need sneakers with non marking treads for gym class. They should be sent daily or kept at school. Sneakers are also needed for outside playtimes like lunch and recess. Clothing that is too long, like pants or skirts, poses a tripping hazard, as does clothing with extra long strings. Keep these things in mind when shopping to avoid getting anything that could pose a risk. Little girls look adorable in dress shoes but they can be slippery and will leave black marks in the hallways. Choose pretty rubber soled sneaker like shoes instead.

Appropriateness is another thing to consider when both purchasing school clothes and selecting them the night before school. Don't send kids in shirts that have inappropriate or violent images or words on them. It's just not okay. Dress children respectably, nicely. The clothes you choose to send your kids to school in say a lot about how you parent. Dress your kids well and thanks for reading!
