Choosing Snacks for Your Cat
Ingredients, Brand, Price, Texture and Flavor Are All Important Things to Consider
Choosing the perfect treat for your feline can be quite the difficult task, however. Every time I go down the pet food isle at the grocery store, I am surprised at how many different types of snacks they offered for cats. There are so many brands and so many varieties that makes choosing the perfect snack for your kitty quite a difficult task.
Ingredients, texture, flavor, price and brands are all very important things to consider when choosing the best snacks for your cat.
Ingredients:
It is very important to read the label on the back of the package before you choose any type of food for your cat. The first ingredients listed should include meat sources such as tuna, chicken, liver or any other type of protein. This is to ensure that the snack you choose is full of natural ingredients. Beware of cat snacks that list many foods that you cannot pronounce or recognize. It may be full of chemicals or other products that may not be healthy for your pet.
Price:
Cat snacks are available for many different prices. You can usually get a small pouch of treats for under two dollars while larger containers may cost up to five dollars. All natural cat snacks or other special varieties will cost you more. While cat treats are relatively inexpensive, they can add up over time especially if you are on a budget. Look for coupons in your cat food or in your pet store flyer to save money on snacks for your kitty.
Brand:
There are a number of different brands of cat snacks. For the most part, I usually stick to well known brands that have been around for years and have a good history when it comes to the cat food they produce. Popular brands use tried and true recipes that most cats seem to love. If your cat likes a certain brand of cat food, it will most likely also enjoy the snacks made by that company as well. When you are trying to figure out what type of treat your cat will like best, buy a package from the brand that you usually feed it first.
Texture:
Cat snacks come in few different textures. There are crunchy treats and soft treats as well as a combination of them both, like crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Cats can be very picky animals, so it may take a while to figure out what texture your cat likes best. Some brands offer packages of cat treats that include two separate pouches containing both crunchy treats and soft treats. If you are not sure what type your cat will like, consider buying a variety pack.
Flavor:
One of the hardest choices to make when choosing cat snacks is deciding what flavor to get. There are so many different varieties of cat treat flavors that it can be hard to make a decision. Some popular flavors include: chicken, beef, liver, seafood, crab, salmon and tuna. Again, this is something that you may have to experiment with. It may take a while to figure out which treat your cat likes best. Some cats will eat any of them while others may only like one or two flavors. It is also a good idea to get a variety pack of different flavors when first trying to find out which flavor your kitty likes best.
Paying attention to ingredients, price, brand, texture and flavor will make it easy choosing snacks for you and your feline friend.
