Choosing a TV for Gaming

Most people don't even think about this issue, just using whatever TV is in the room that they use for playing on their games consoles, whichever one is going spare in the house, or just buying any TV which looks like it is good enough quality and in the right price range without thinking about how suitable it is for the purpose they are plannig on using it for. But it can actually make a real difference to your game playing experience, and it is well worth putting in that extra little bit of thought to get the right TV for the job.

What to look for in a TV for Gaming

First things first I would say that it is a good idea to look for a TV set which has side ports for connecting your gaming consoles, as well as any other electronic gadgets you might want to use. This is much, much easier than having to mess around moving the set out or leaning over to reach around the back to fiddle around unplugging wires and plugging new ones in. This is particuarly important if you move your console around or if you have more than one console or if you use a lot of other bit of kit like camcorder and so on - and so you have to unplug one thing and plug in another on a regular basis.

The next thing to look for is whether the TV set you are looking at has a dedicated game mode. Basically this should optimize various settings on your television so that they are ideally suited to playing games, and will be you a better picture quality when playing. Quite a few models have this function, so it shouldn't be hard for you to find one.

One of the problems that you can have using a regular television is that there will often be a small lag between things happening in the game and the picture on your set refreshing to display what is happening. This might not make much difference most of the time but if you need to react very quickly to something in the game, or if you get to a particularly demanding part of a game that will slow it even more, then this can make the difference between winning and losing, or the difference between a fun and a frustrating experience. You can buy TVs which are manufactured with features specifically designed for gaming that will reduce this lag time (see resource links or search on google for 'best gaming tv' or something like that for products with this feature), or if you can't get one of these then just compare the 'response time' of the products you are looking at and pick the fastest one that you can.

I hope this helps you to make an informed choice and to get yourself the best possible TV for gaming so that you can have the maximum possible fun!
