Chris Angle is What He Claims to Be, a True "Mind Freak!"

Robert Guinn
Magicians come and go, only a few remain in our memories as "Great Magicians". Examples of these great magicians are Harry Houdini, Black Stone, David Copperfield, Lance Burton, and a recent addition, Chris Angle. You may have heard of this modern day magician as the "Mind Freak" or you may have seen him on his series by the same name on A&E. Chris Angle defies even the most hard core magicians with his amazing stunts, tricks and illusions.

Chris Angle goes by the name Mind Freak, a term he defines as "A modern day mystic with powers beyond human comprehension" and the man really proves his point. Chris Angle's tricks and illusions are way beyond anything you have seen and possibly will ever see. Many have compared him to David Blane, but anyone who sees Chris in action will tell you his charisma, showmanship and overall presentation is ten times better then anything David Blain has to offer.

Chris's tricks include, floating from one building to another, in broad daylight with crowds below watching, Walking down the sides of buildings at 90 degree angles, walking through windows, and much more. These are some of his greatest illusions that have the world of magicians rethinking what the standards of "amazing" are. When you see a man like Chris Angle walk on water, or perform acts of levitation with these live audiences around you really have to ask yourself what it takes to impress a crowd.

One great thing about the show and Chris in general is that everything he does is or at least seems to be real. At the very least it's all legitimate, cameras are placed everywhere, and even members of the audience have been given a video camera in order to film the trick or illusion in whatever way they deem fit. While Chris is performing the audience members can film in a 360 degree view and even get to be the closest of any member of the audience, these people may be plants I don't know, but the different perspectives really add to the overall effect of the illusion.

Family is very important to Chris, so many times his brother and his mom accompany him all across the United States to see him perform. It's very sweet that Chris has such a close relationship with his mother, but then again Chris is an all around good person. In a special show, Chris received a letter from a boy who had cancer that was in remission. The boys dream was to meet Chris and perform at one of his shows, to learn from the great magician, so Chris allowed his young fan to live out that dream by teaching him some basic yet amazing tricks and allowed him to perform his act at one of Chris's shows. Also Chris is very in turn with his fan base. He knows it is them whom he strides to please and often makes surprise appearances and involves them intricately with his illusions. Once Chris received a quilt from a young girl, he was so impressed with this gift that it was featured in a number of disappearing acts.

All in all Chris Angle lives up to his title of "Mind Freak" his tricks, illusions and acts are so amazing and astonishing that they will leave you speechless. His slight of hand magic with simple objects like playing cards, coins and the human mind are the best I have ever seen, and I'm a hard core magic buff. I enjoy playing clips from his show in slow motion trying to understand the logic or essence of the illusion, but never to any avail. Chris Angle will go down in history as one of the greatest magicians of all time; he truly is what he claims to be, a "Mind Freak!"

I love to write and good at it.  View profile

Chris Angle has taken many illusions from his predicessors like Harry Houdinie and Black Stone and re-invented the tricks to fit in the modern world, like the floating lightbulb and water chamber escape

I have seen his show once or twice and he is kinda freaky. Nice to hear about him on a more personal level too. Great article.

Good article! I am obviously behind on my magic-viewing, as I've never heard of this guy. After reading your piece, I definitely want to check him out.
