Chris Brown Pleads Guilty to Felony Assualt of Rihanna

It appears as if Chris Brown has somehow danced his way out of possible jail time as today it was announced that the 20 year old singer turned felon has accepted a plea agreement with the State of California prosecuting attorney. The young R and B star has agreed to plead guilty to felony assault of Rihanna, avoiding possible prison time and instead receiving five years of supervised probation, six months of community service and domestic violence counseling. Interestingly, the singer accepted this plea literally hours if not minute before a preliminary hearing, which was to involve eye witness testimony from the victim and former girlfriend of the defendant-Rihanna.

Even without today's news, this case has garnered massive media attention for multiple reasons. One reason for the superfluous amount of attention was the fact that the altercation involved both Chris Brown and Rihanna, two of the most popular young entertainers of today, responsible for countless platinum recordings and numerous #1 hits. Both singers are at the forefront of today's pop scene and have millions of adoring fans. Furthermore, the unexpected inhumane beating of Rihanna and the subsequent images of her battered face completely decimated the clean, good guy image that Chris Brown masterfully marketed for various fortune 500 companies. Underscoring this was the fact that several leaks from the police report to various media outlets including the above mentioned picture as well as various police reports had led to multiple internal investigations as well as lawsuits.

Probably the biggest concern in the case was the fact that even after the incident occurred, Rihanna and Chris Brown tried to maintain the relationship, often being caught together or using various other celebrities' homes as sanctuaries to be together and escape the media's attention. Rihanna's initial decision to stay with Chris Brown resonated through out the media world as multiple celebrities including Oprah Winfrey herself, publicly stated that this would send a message to little girls everywhere that domestic violence is okay and acceptable.

Recently, both singers have tried to distance themselves from the legal case involving them, with Chris Brown staying relatively low on the radar, only popping up infrequently on Youtube to promote his new album "Graffiti" and to proclaim that he is "not a monster". Rihanna has more or less continued on as if nothing has happened, frequently seen jet setting all over the world on shopping sprees, vacations in Caribbean locales, and seen with multiple other celebrities such as NBA stars Rashad Lewis and Andrew Bynum as well as rap newcomer Drake.

Only time will tell if the world will forgive Chris Brown for his crime but if the pasts of Bobby Brown, Prince, Ike Turner, Kci from Jodeci, as well as multiple other singers will show, unfortunately the world will soon forget the domestic violence he committed or at the least it will become nothing more that a footnote in his Wikipedia page.
