It's no surprise that Colfer won the award. His portrayal of the fashionable Kurt Hummel is a staple of "Glee," and the show would suffer if the character of Hummel was removed. And just like we enjoy listening to the beautiful voice of Lea Michele, we also appreciate the singing voice of Chris Colfer, an actor with no professional training. "I've never had any professional training anywhere, just high school and community theater shows," said Colfer in an interview with the Advocate.
Having a gay character in prime time is important. It brings attention to the GLBT community and highlights issues that affect that community. One of them is bullying. In fact, Colfer assures us that he was not out in his high school in Clovis, California. "Oh, no. People are killed in my hometown for that," said Colfer.
When Chris Colfer accepted his Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television, he thanked the creator of "Glee," Ryan Murphy, who is also gay, for "being his fairy godfather." In addition, Colfer had encouraging words for the youth who watch "Glee,":
"To all the amazing kids who watch our show, and the kids that our show celebrates, who are constantly told 'no' by the people and the environments, by bullies at school, that they can't be who they are or have what they want because of who they are. Well, screw that, kids!"

Post a Comment@Stacey - I really like him, too.
I was so happy he won. I've seen him on talk shows, and he seems like such a sweet kid. Just picked out of nowhere and now a big star. Good for him.
