Chris Matthews' Career Move: All Beck Bashing, All the Time

Snidely Whiplash
I think MSNBC's Chris Matthews has a huge crush on Fox's "Pillsbury Doughboy," as Beck often describes himself. What else can explain the incessant "Beck this" and "Beck that" mantra that rolls off his mellifluous tongue on a non-stop basis? Has Chris ever heard the denigration once thrown at me by a smarmy progressive - "You're preaching to the choir?"

Chris Matthews has one constituency...left heads who have built a political ideology and world entirely around a trumped up self importance generously peppered with distaste and disgust for anyone not so enlightened as they. I am left with the distinct impression Matthews' is going for the "rah, rah, rah" position because for him to continually bash Beck to the Beck haters is frankly not a newsflash.

I confess to enjoying Matthews rants though. He gets spittle all over his lips as he heaves and blathers, his boyish blond hair in the same style he's worn for 40 years...points for consistency though for both the hair and the Beck bash routine. Methinks Chris goes with the mantra "Dance with the one that brung ya."

And Matthews is clever after a fashion. Hes able to apply that Philadelphia accent with just the proper inflection to sound disdainful, arrogant, misleading and uninformed all at once - now that's talent Baby! Matthews is the master of the overreach. Still, he's more entertaining than Sir Olbermann was with his repertoire which only consisted of squinting eyes, distracting spectacles and Shakespearean delivery. In fact I believe Olbermann's entire schtick was a distracting spectacle but that's a topic for another day. Besides, Olbermann is gone to Current TV collecting carbon credits for pay, so far be it from me to kick an ass when he's down.

In Matthews latest effort he and a Media Matters mouthpiece discuss Beck's belief that the radical left and Islamic fundamentalist types have one common goal - chaos. Beck's argument is basically that both entities need chaos to upset current balances of power in order to further their ends. Worldwide leftism calls for solidarity with Muslim radicals seeking fundamentalism and Beck is highlighting this fact. As well Matthews is on a tear attacking Beck for predicting that Islamic fundamentalists seek a new caliphate, and one they wish could become a worldwide reality.

Matthews begins the interview with "Ya gotta wonder about this guys [Beck} condition." Next Matthews opens his dialogue with Media Matters Eric Boehlert with "Ya know is this his mental condition; his emotional condition?" Then Matthews decides Beck is intent on "merchandising" and concludes "there's never any evidence presented." Let's examine that allegation, as frankly I don't care what idiot Matthew's amateur denigrating appraisal of Beck's mental condition is about anyway. I mean so what if Matthews' uses Beck as a punching bag...I surely love using Matthews as one so fair is fair.

"There's never any evidence presented?" That's all he's got for proof? As one of the You Tube comments indicate, "Of course Beck has produced evidence.......pretty much every time he puts out a notion about someone and/or something, Beck plays a video of the person USING THEIR OWN WORDS!! Beck also tells viewers to NOT take his word for anything, but to do their own research...."

To put a finer point on it, Beck does provide the evidence every single time without fail, and as the You Tube commentator indicated, he does so by either showing video of the person saying it, or plays a tape of them saying it or shows the quote on his big TV screens. So what's that Chris...."There's never any evidence presented" was it?

Perhaps the unwashed could wrap their little minds around this concept...Beck is not a journalist as he clearly states that over and over. He is a commentator first, but more than that he's a teacher. Good teachers teach, no? Beck is teaching the viewing public. And as the "caliphate" Goggle search from last week demonstrates, when Beck tells viewers to "do their own research," they do! As a regular Beck viewer I often as not have my laptop on my lap and during commercials I google Beck's presentations and I'll be damned if thus far I can find a single example of Beck NOT telling the dead honest truth.

Regardless of what one wishes to call him and no matter how his detractors wish to portray him, Glenn Beck presents verifiable evidence of his contentions. That Matthews' bases his entire career of late upon the cottage industry of bashing and calling a liar to a man who proves almost every thing he offers, Matthews shows his true nature.

He's arrogant. He's angry. He's been marginalized and seemingly he's none too happy about it. And lest we forget, Matthews claim to fame prior to the MSNBC gig? He was a Democrat political staffer, Jimmy Carter speech writer and as Wikipedia states "a long time aide to Tip O'Neill, playing a direct role in many key political battles with the Reagan Administration."

So who is it again there Chris that needs to provide their bona fides? Beck does so on every show. Frankly I do not agree with some of Beck's positions but I'll be damned if I can find him to be dishonest about anything he presents. Chris Matthews, not so much.

    Matthews has gone off the deep end. If he thinks Beck is there, he needs to reflect!

    Islamic fundamentalists ARE seeking a new caliphate. They've threatened to annihilate Isreael, and what more proof does Matthews want beyond 2 buildings downed in New York and 3000 dead? He and the rest of the Left have their heads so far up the sand hill, they've lost their minds.

    Agreed David...I did confess to bashing Matthews myself. Still, it's not the totality of my existence as bashing Beck seems to be to Matthews.

    Matthews are simply opposite sides of the same coin. The things that can be said of one are true of both.... except, of course, for their socio-political points of view :-}
