Chris Noth: Twenty Six Years of Acting
Chris was born, Christopher David Noth, on November 13, 1954 in Madison, WI. His father died when he was eight years old and his mother worked for CBS television news. Noth moved around a lot throughout his childhood, living in England, Yugoslavia, and Spain. When he returned to the United States, he studied at the alternative Marlboro College in Vermont where he was able to find his muse. Upon graduation in 1978, he started classes with the acting coach Stanford Meissner at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, before being accepted into Yale School of Drama where he worked with the American Shakespeare Festival in 1985. By the late 80's, Noth's roles moved from stage to film and then television.

Even though he had bit parts in movies like Cutter's Way, directed by Ivan Passer, The Beat 1986 and Baby Boom in 1987 the one thing that brought him up to the top was his being cast as Det. Mike Logan on Law & Order in1990. He was a typical New York City policeman putting his life experience into his role. He was on Law & Order for five Seasons weathering several cast changes that included Paul Sorvino, Mike Dzundza, and Michael Moriarty as Logan's partners.

In 1995 fans were shocked when Dick Wolf, the creator of Law & Orders, wrote Logan's character off the show replacing him with Benjamin Bratt's Ray Curtis. It was a good thing that the writers didn't kill him off. His character was always a little hotheaded and after he hits a Senator in the face on the news in front of the court house, he was transferred to a different district away from Manhattan where he was. In 1998, Noth surprised fans when his character, Logan, returned to the streets of Manhattan in the thrilling TV spin-off, Exiled. Because of that movie, he developed a new fan base. Some of the fans from Sex & the City had not noticed him in Law & Order, and fans from Law & Order might not have seen him on Sex & the City. This gave Noth the ability to show even a different side of his acting ability.

After six seasons on Sex & The City playing Mr. Big, Noth was brought back to the Law & Order family in, Law & Order: Criminal Intent. His fans were overjoyed as we saw Mike Logan, wearing his battered leather jacket, walking the streets of Manhattan. Noth started in the third season of the show. The unit that Logan works in is for extreme crime. Cases that the regular departments can't solve. During the program one can see how Det. Mike Logan's mind works.

Some of Noth's latest works include:

2007 Frame of Mind
2005 The Perfect Man
2004 Mr. 3000
2003 Julius Caesar
2001 Double Whammy
2001 The Glass House
2001 The Judge
2000 Cast Away
2000 A Texas Funeral

Chris Noth has been acting in the theater now for twenty-six years and has done, at lease, a project every year if not two or three. Noth has been on Broadway in Gore Vidal's The Best Man, playing Senator Cantwell opposite Spalding Gray.

Watch Law & Order: Criminal Intent and I know you will fall for his character like so many of us have.
