Rock's Early Career- Chris's career began with stand-up comedy all the way back in 1985. He worked clubs across New York City and slowly rose up the comedy ranks. He had a small role in the I'm gonna get you Sucka and in the TV series Miami Vice. His break came when he met the legendary Eddie Murphy. Murphy decided to mentor Rock and take him under his wings.
Saturday Night Live- Rock's career really began to take of in the 90's when he became a part of Saturday Night Live. Along with other great comics like Adam Sandler, Chris Farley and David Spade, Rock became part of the Bad Boys of SNL. Rock would eventually release his own comedy album called Born Suspect. His success on SNL led to a role in the critically acclaimed New Jack City. Rock was beginning to get exposure however he was upset that he was not being used more on SNL. He eventually would jump ship to another show, In Living Color until it eventually went off the air.
Stand-up and HBO- HBO saw the talent that Chris Rock. Amazed by his comedic ability they offered him his own HBO special in 1994. It wasn't until 1996 however with his second special, Bring the Pain, that Rock's career really began to take off. Although it sparked it's fair share of controversy, Rock was a huge success. Such a success that he won two Emmy awards for the performance. He later was given two more HBO specials, Bigger and Blacker, and NeverScared. Both have gone on to have huge success and both have opened more doors for the star. He even had his own talk show on HBO during the late 90's.
Music, Movies and Televison- Chris Rock's career in movies has been incredible. Besides from his roles in New Jack City and Beverly Hills Cop II he has appeared in numerous films such as Down to Earth, Lethal Weapon 4, Nurse Betty and Head of the State. His 2007 hit I Think I Love My Wife is a movie he produced himself that was super. Even bigger than the movies is the fact that Chris has his hilarious own TV show. Everybody Hates Chris is currently in it's third season. This hilarious show chronicles Chris's childhood and focuses on some of the funny events that Chris often mentions in his standup. My favorite is the scene where he talks about how his father always was supposed to get 'the big piece of chicken.'
Through T.V. shows, movies and stand up, Chris Rock has earned the right to be called the funniest man alive. He has made a place in history as one of the funniest men alive. Look out for his 5th HBO special coming soon!
