The best things in life....

This summer Battery City Park is hosting free concerts in Rockefeller Park for the River to River festival . This Wednesday, Def Jam recording artist Chrisette Michele , kicked off the free concert series with a picturesque performance, as she graced the stage with the Hudson River as the backdrop, and her captivating voice was front and center.

Chrisette Michele who is known for her versatile singing range that includes, R&B, Jazz, and Soul, gave the crowd a taste of each genre throughout the night, starting first at mic check. Although the New York sun was beaming brightly, that did not stop fans from arriving at least two hours before her set just to secure a good seat. However, even those who arrived on time were able to enjoy the show with their blanket and friends on the green grass.

Wearing a flower sundress and pink lipstick, the "Porcelain Doll" singer opened the show with a series of nostalgic crowd favorites such as " Be Okay " from her debut album I Am , " I'm A Star " from her third studio album, Let Freedom Reign , and " What You Do ", from her sophomore album Epiphany . With her full band supporting her every whim, Michele, took liberties to do a remix to "Aston Martin Music", (noting New Yorker's walk,) an Erykah Badu cover, and a Gospel set, with a testimony. Surprisingly, Michele was able to venture off from her more familiar tracks without losing one fan.

How?

Because she is also from New York, and spoke the same language as the audience, as if they were family. By the middle of her set the pleasantries were over, and the family, overcome by the "spirit" started to bypass the seating area and made themselves more comfortable closer to the stage, as the women and men sung along; surprisingly well.

As the sun got less intense, the crowd looked like they could stay in Rockefeller Park all night listening to Michele. However, Michele informed the crowd her last songs would be "Moving On" and " Blame It On Me ", which was performed with vivid audience participation. Sensing the concert was coming to an end, more people rushed towards the stage to get their final camera shot and video clip, as Michele ended her set with the club friendly single, " Fragile ".
