Chrissie Hynde Announces Vegan Fashion Line "Fairground Luck"

Vegan Fashion Designers Worth Checking Out

Linda StCyr
Vegan fashion is not the newest trend to hit the fashion scene but it is one of the hottest. Chrissie Hynde, lead singer of the Pretenders, has often put herself on the front line for causes involving animal rights and planet friendliness. Her work with PETA has been documented quite well from her latest benefit concert for the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary to her protest against McDonald's chicken nuggets with the "I'm Hatin' It!" campaign.

Hynde's newest endeavor involves the launch of her eco-friendly vegan fashion line called "Fairground Luck." The vegan fashion line will include t-shirts, faux leather jeans, handbags, cowboy boots and many other items that are earth and animal friendly. The entire line uses no animal-skins, earth friendly materials and is designed for the ethical, conscious fashion shopper.

In creating the vegan friendly fashion line, Chrissie Hynde, worked closely with her friend and ex-lover JP Jones and eco-designers John Bartlett and Todd Oldham. Hynde told Vogue that she was inspired by her friend and fellow musician Emmylou Harris, who happens to be a vegetarian.

Although, the singer's new vegan fashion line is aimed at musicians it seems the clothing is designed for anyone who wants to wear animal friendly clothing with a punk rock appeal. The Pretenders rocker may just make faux leather one of the hottest, coolest fashion trends to rock out in this fall.

Chrissie Hynde's vegan fashion line "Fairground Luck" is set to debut this fall. Fidelity, the first CD by Hynde's new band, JP, Chrissie and The Fairground Boys, was released on August 24th, 2010. Her new fashion line and one soulful ballad off the new album share the name "Fairground Luck."

Other musicians who have introduced fashion lines include Madonna, Adam Levine (frontman for Maroon 5), Bono (U2), Justin Timberlake, Will.i.am (The Black Eyed Peas), Jay-Z, P. Diddy and a few others. It seems that once musicians become a hot topic for their music the next step is to release a fashion line. Lady Gaga has even said she would be interested in releasing a fashion line although that hasn't happened...yet.

Hynde will be joining the ranks of other vegan fashion designers like Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart (Vaute Couture), Elizabeth Olsen (Olsen Haus), Christine Marchuska and Brooke Bresnan (C.Marchuska), and Arlene Nilsson (The Hemptress). Each designer uses earth-friendly and animal friendly products.
