"Return to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you (Zechariah 9:12 NKJV)."
This is an incredible declaration from the Bible! Even today, I (God) will restore double to you. This is one of God's marvelous Bible promises. However, receiving this gift of double restoration from the promises of God requires something from us.
Return to the Stronghold
What's a stronghold? A stronghold is a fortress offering protection from an invader. Jesus Christ is the Stronghold for the Christian. "He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense (Psalms 62:2 NKJV)."
"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 NKJV)." Jesus Christ is the Rock of salvation. Jesus Christ is our stronghold. We must return to Christ the Rock to receive the promises of God.
Prisoners of Hope
We're prisoners of this existence on earth. This body of clay holds the spirit which longs to return to the Creator. We aren't prisoners without hope. Our hope is placed in Jesus Christ the Rock, our Stronghold.
We believe, by faith, that Jesus Christ gave himself as the sacrifice for our sin. Our hope lies in the belief he didn't stay dead. Jesus Christ rose again. Because Christ the Rock lives, we live as well. Though we're in this flesh, we hope for the time when we'll see him as He is, face to face. Our hope is in Jesus Christ the Rock.
Restoring Double
As we return to Jesus Christ the Rock, God gives the promise of restoring to us double of what is damaged or missing. This world may hold us prisoner. This world may beat us and leave us damaged. This world may strip us of our spirit. The damage will be repaired and what's lost will be replaced double when we return to Christ the Rock, our Stronghold.
Yes, this Bible verse offers us one of the astounding promises of God. Yes, double restoration is one of the great Bible promises of God. Jesus Christ the Rock is our Stronghold. Run to him. He only is our rock and our salvation.
