Christian De La Fuente Suffers Injury on "Dancing with the Stars"

Injury isn't something new for the contestants of ABC's hit television series "Dancing with the Stars." Both the pros and the celebrities have suffered injuries throughout the years.

Last night, April 21, Christian de la Fuente joined the ranks of the injured. Exactly when the injury occurred, no one seems certain. Partner Cheryl Burke told "Entertainment Tonight" at etonline.com.

At the time, Cheryl indicated that she wondered what she heard but didn't give it much thought until Christian was unable to dip her as planned within the choreography. The couple continued to dance until the point when a horrible mask of pain, loss of footwork, and an immobile arm made it clear that Christian could not finish as planned.

Make no mistake about it, however, Christian continued to move until the last beat of the music. Unfortunately, he could not complete the routine exactly as planned. Nor could he lift his dance partner off the floor as usual.

Host Tom Bergerone insisted on taking a commercial break to give the star a moment to gather himself as well as to have the medic check out the injury. When the show returned it was announced that it appeared to be a severe muscle spasm.

Although the judges indicated that they would only judge the portion of the dance that Christian was able to complete, their scores did not reflect that at all. Adding insult to injury, Carrie Ann, Len, and Bruno all gave the Latin heartthrob a seven for a total of 21; some of his lowest scores of the series.

Bergerone later announced that Christian had been put in an ambulance and taken to the hospital to have his arm checked out further. However, he is expected to return for the results show this evening. It will then be announced whether or not he will be able to continue. That assumes, of course, that his fans flocked to the phone to save this likeable star.

Marissa Jared-Winokur told "Entertainment Tonight" that while she enjoyed her high scores for the evening, all she really cared about was Christian's well being. Kristi Yamaguchi concurred. Jason Taylor also said how impressed he was that Christian continued to dance amid all of the pain.

As a fan of the show, I have to say that I like this charming young man who dedicates each of his dances to his little princess - his daughter. There is something very humble and sweet about him that makes you want to like him. Certainly, I can think of no one who would wish him ill.

Let's all join with Christian's fans to wish him well and hope that he gets the opportunity to continue, assuming that he wants to and gets the green light to do so. The show will certainly be less without his presence.that she "heard something crack" during the middle portion of the dance. The audience, however, didn't become aware of the problem till closer to the end of the routine.

He looked like he was in so much pain to have to stop that way. I agree - I thought the dance was much better than 7 for what they did of it.
