"Church giving is down in every area," says Tom Freiling who helps Christian groups raise money, "as well as giving for missions and special projects." Giving to churches was reportedly down between $3 billion and $5 billion last year. The Barna Group says "one out of every five households has decreased its giving to churches or other religious centers." "This makes it especially difficult for churches," says Freiling, "because during a recession people turn to them for help."
Christian groups have many options when it comes to fundraising. Some groups host events, such as concerts or banquets, while others host car washes or other service-oriented activities. These events can be successful but the problem with events and activities, however, is that they take many hours to organization and are often risky ventures because they cost money up-front.
Other groups turn to product sales. The most popular products are cookie dough, wrapping paper, candy, and popcorn. Churches, especially youth groups, can raise money by selling product to their friends and family. The challenge with selling product is that there are order forms, return visits, and inventory to distribute. The other problem is that during a recession, it is more difficult to sell products that can be purchased for less at a local retail store.
Some groups are turning to an innovative product called the Samaritan Card. The Samaritan Card, introduced this year by Samaritan Fundraising, is helping church groups across the country raise money. The Samaritan Card is a wallet-size shopping discount card. Samaritan cardholders save up to 50% with the card at more than 100,000 popular merchants nationwide. Groups sell the card to raise money.
The Samaritan Card offers hope to Christian groups who need to raise money fast and easy. Groups can earn huge profits when they sell the Samaritan Card, and the process is fast and easy. There are no order forms or return visits. This enables churches and other organizations to meet the needs of those who have been impacted by the recession.
Christian fundraising can be fun, fast, and easy. It's important to do your homework and make sure to involve your entire team in the decision making process. You can raise lots of money for your church, youth group, or other Christian group if you are well-organized and enthusiastic about the fundraiser.
