Christian Perspectives on Euthanasia and Suicide

Christina Armani
Euthanasia and suicide are two issues that are quite set in stone Christians. Christianity is about ethics and morality. There is nothing moral or righteous about taking a life or helping take a life. Christians clearly believe that euthenasia and suicide are wrong and should not be committed. There are several important reasons not to commit euthanasia or suicide. The main reason is that suicide is selfish. It is taking the easy way out, and not dealing with your feelings or situations. It is hurting the ones that you love, and causing them pain. Only God and God alone has the right to decide who should live and die.

According to Christians, God has gave us the gift of life and only he has a say in what to do with that gift. God alone is divine and all powerful, we as human beings are inferior and don't have God's approval to take the life of a baby or that of our own. How can God not be furious when someone decides to end a baby's life or their own life? God sees these people as murderers and will hold them in contempt when the time comes.

God commands us not to be selfish, and wanting to kill yourself because life is too hard is selfish. God wants us to love live, and euthanasia and suicide are not ways to love, appreciate, or value life. God commands us to call on him for help and comfort, not to give up completely when the going gets though. There is no question that wanting to commit suicide is cowardly. God frowns on cowards and commands us to find strength in him. As for abortions, induced miscarriages, or infanticide, taking the life of a fetus or newborn baby is murder.

"Though shall not kill" is one of the ten commandments, and should be taken very seriously. God doesn't take the breaking of a commandment lightly, and all sins will have to be accounted for on judgement day. Even if you don't believe in Christianity, you're still taking someone's life which is no small deal. Taking any life is wrong, but it is especially wrong to take the life of the helpless and innocent. Only God deserves to have ultimate power over death and should decide when it is time for anyone to die.
