Wail so painfully in my ear?
Could it be such things ever last,
Living on year after year?
O! merciful Lord above me
Shower down Your soothing rain!
Extinguish these flames about me
And snap this heart-wrenching chain.
Only your love can rescue me
From this storm which is my life;
Only Your strength can set me free
From my captors: Pain and Strife.
My past still haunts me day and night,
Laying heavy on my heart.
Lord, drench me with Your curing light;
Repair ev'ry shattered part.
Reveal a glimpse of things to come,
A vision of tomorrow,
The hope in Christ's future kingdom
And Heaven without sorrow!
Slowly, the wailing is dying,
Drowned out by Lady Hope's song;
Although my heart is still crying,
Lord, You grant me faith that's strong.
Vow that You'll always stay near me,
No matter how far I roam,
For like You I desire to be
And beside You is my home.
