Christian Siriano Spring 2010 Collection: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Review

New York Fashion Week's Fiercest! September 2009

Elizabeth V. Miller
In my opinion, Christian Siriano has really become the designer of the people. The facts that he's beyond talented and had his start on reality-television's Project Runway clinch his everyday appeal. New York Fashion Week, which started on September 10 and will continue to run through the 17, has been and will be the debut for many new designer collections. But of everything Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has to offer, I've been most anticipating Christian Siriano's show.

I've been drawn to Christian's work for a while now, but I have to admit it was watching do-a-day hair tutorials put on by his friend and Cibu International's lovely brand manager, Jenn Mapp, that really got me in the Siriano spirit this season. (And Christian's adorable sister Shannon--who doesn't love her?!) Yes, in some psychotic way, online blogs, videos, and twitter posts leave us feeling a camaraderie with these expressive, lovable, undeniably talented, and seemingly relatable stars--even if in real life we wouldn't have all that much in common.

Enough rambling, and on to the actual review: Christian Siriano's Spring 2010 Collection did not disappoint! You can view snippets from the show on Youtube, and find various pictures all across the Internet, I'm sure. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week also has its own site with some video and photographs of the show.

There were ruffles and pleats in all the right places, fabrics you'd practically die for, and pieces to dream about for days--let alone outfits that might actually inspire you to hit the gym once again. Since I've never been great with categorizing colors, I'll let Nana at Bluefly's Flypaper call out the color palette as "nudes, penny coppers, and gem blues."

Of course there were a few fierce pieces not for the everyday woman, but Christian's show was mostly filled with chic professional wear, subdued party dresses, and exquisite formals--apparel we everyday girls would actually wear on a normal basis. From the looks of what I've seen so far from other Fashion Week collections, that really can't be said about every show. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Christian's collection be once again picked up by Saks Fifth Avenue or another company of the like.

Even if designer wear isn't for you, or in your budget, Christian Siriano's Spring 2010 Collection is quite a sight--a beautiful, sophisticated, and heavenly sight! The dresses will surely give you something to daydream about, and all of the modern and trendy takes on professional wear should give you some ideas of how to incorporate fashion into the workplace. It's hard to decide on a favorite piece because every last item in the collection was beautiful. Well done!

And Jenn, I really think you should have gone with your Siriano-designed wedding dress for your fashion week attire like you joked about. Sure, your fiancée would have seen it--and it might not have made the best fashion statement ever--but it would definitely have been fierce! Okay, I'll keep dreaming . . .

I love it when a designer displays clothes normal people would wear. It's a lovely collection. How do those models walk in those heels???

Good information. And it's true Elizabeth, social media allows us to feel a camaraderie with these stars--even if we probably wouldn't have much in common.

Very good information. I'm like Roz, though, it's most tees and jeans for me now.
