Christian and a Tarot Reader

The Tarot is Not Evil as Many Would Have You Believe

herbie
I am Christian and I read tarot cards. For many that seems to be an impossibility. Many of my Christian friends think that the tarot is evil. I think evil is created by we humans using many forms. I think it is evil to go to church and confess your sins and then go out and perform the same sins all over again.

I think it is evil to go to church and somehow think this makes you better than people who do not. I do, by the way, go to church. And no, I do not worship Satan as many Christians seem to think tarot readers do. Satan worship has no place in tarot reading. The devil that is represented in the tarot has to do with an over attachment to material things and/or the bad things that we humans do.

I tend to think that there are many forms of religion because God is smart enough to know that different people, different societies receive his word in different ways. That is what I feel my tarot cards do for me. I clear my mind and then pray asking God for his guidance through my cards. Then I usually do the traditional Celtic Cross spread. The cards remarkably reflect my problem and give a direction as to how to resolve it.

There are many different spreads that are suppose to address specific issues. You can find these in the many tarot books that are out there in all major book stores and all over the Internet. I tend to stick with the Celtic Cross and I start each day with a 3 card spread. That is just a general overview of your day. What the vibes are and such. For the 3 card spread you just clear your mind, cut the deck and then cut the deck into 3 piles. Turn the top card over. Do this all with your left hand. It is said to be the hand connected to the heart.

There are many different decks of tarot cards. I prefer the traditional Rider Waite deck, I suppose because I have read tarot cards for over 20 years. At the time that I started reading tarot there were not as many decks available as there are today.

I have tried other decks and liked them, but it seems that I always come back to my old, trusty deck that I know so well. I guess that I am fortunate that I live in a country that allows for religious freedom. If I lived somewhere else I could very well be stoned to death or have my hands cut off for reading my cards. I just have a hard time understanding the religious intolerance. Most of the time I find it comes from ignorance and fear.

Thank you for this article. I believe that the power the Tarot cards draw from is whatever you place first in your own spirituality. Because of my strong belief in the triune God, He is the one who supplies all my answers, and sometimes the cards provide insight on what to pray for or what to concentrate my spiritual life on.

Thanks for your thoughts. I think God is a smart God and knows people will hear him differently and I think this quote I heard from Criminal Minds sums up kind of what you were saying about how people thinking Tarot is bad because of the devil and people shouldn't go near them if they're Christian. "The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary. Men alone are quite capable of every wickedness," by Joseph Conrad. Its all about how you see yourself the world and your relationship with God really. Apparently God doesn't have a problem with you using them because even because you use them, you give Glory to God by asking for his guidance and protection right. Before I read your thoughts I was actually wondering if I should get rid of this set of tarot cards I got when I was shopping with my mom. I like the cards because of their looks, but they and things like them have always interested me, but I know I am a Christian and I love my God. And people always say Glorify God well y would he give me this interest if not for something He does control our paths right?

This is a great article. I am also a Christian tarologist. I agree with you, and have had the experience, that God is able to figure out the most effective way to connect with each individual. Very often with tremendous humor! :) Keep up the good work!

Tarot cards are not evil because they were designed for no other purpose than for playing a card game.

I love my mother peace cards they seem to suit me best. I agree with what you wrote. God knows us and our intentions. Going to church and repeating the same sins again Monday - Saturday isn't good. Tarot cards help me connect to what is telling me. That's good isn't it? Great article.
