Christina Aguilera to Star in Film & Album News

Grammy award winning singer Christina Aguilera, 28, will finally star in a motion picture. After years of rumors about Aguilera snapping up roles in films, it seems that she will finally make her acting debut. According to Variety magazine, Aguilera will star in a musical film entitled Burlesque and will portray - you guessed it - a burlesque dancer. It seems to be a typical rags to riches sort of tale - a young girl from a small town with a talent for singing finds success and love in a burlesque club in Los Angeles.

The contemporary musical Burlesque will be directed and written by Steve Antin (Chasing Papi) and produced by Screen Gems - reports indicate that the role was written with Aguilera specifically in mind. Antin's sister, Robin Antin, began the wildly popular burlesque group Pussycat Dolls. Screen Gems would not comment on casting, as they said it was too early to do so, but it also looks like Julianne Hough (recently featured in Dancing with the Stars) may star alongside Aguilera as a pregnant showgirl. The film is set to begin shooting in late 2009 or early in 2010.

According to recent news as written by Entertainment Weekly, Cher will be making a big screen comeback in Burlesque. The singer will play the owner of the burlesque club Aguilera's character will find fame in.

Aguilera has not been featured in a starring role in a motion picture before, but she lent her voice to a small role in the 2004 animated motion picture Shark Tale. No doubt Aguilera's role is probably similar to roles in similar films featuring pop stars - Mariah Carey in Glitter, anyone?

The songstress also has a new album apparently slated for release in September of 2009. Aguilera's upcoming album will feature at least two collaborations with DJ Premier (also featured on Aguilera's Ain't No Other Man) and Linda Perry (the writer behind her hit song Beautiful). Australian diva Sia will also do work on Aguilera's album and is quoted as saying (via popular networking site Twitter) that the album sounds "sooper dooper!" and fans need to "get ready" for it. Other talents who will be featured on Aguilera's upcoming album include electronic act Ladytron and the classic Tricky Stewart (who also penned Mariah Carey's recent hit Touch My Body). It appears as though the first single from Aguilera's album may be released in July of 2009.

The blonde singer has mentioned that she records whatever she is interested in at the time and is notorious for changing her image - for better or worse. Her most recent incarnation was more glamorous and mature, made to match the intended circus-like and vintage vibe to her album Back to Basics. This album will be more dance oriented - as if it isn't already clear from Ladytron being featured in the list of collaborators - and as for her image, Aguilera's hair is yet more blonde and her clothes more vibrant and modern.

Christina Aguilera was also recently featured in People magazine's annual "Most Beautiful People" issue with her son Max, who had his first birthday in January.
