Christina Taylor Green, 9, Killed in Shooting at Rep. Giffords' Event

Julia Bodeeb
Today has been a tragic day for America. Congresswoman G. Giffords was shot in the face while she was conducting a public event at a Safeway store in Tucson, Arizona. And a young girl who was born on September 11, 2001 was also shot to death in the incident. She was born on a day of violence in America and she died in an act of violence.

It is hard to comprehend how someone could shoot a child to death. This young girl was just enjoying life and now a gunman has stolen her future. It is tragic that so much gun violence keeps killing kids in our country. She was in elementary school. That is supposed to be a time of fun, not a time of death.

Christina Taylor Green went to the event with a neighbor. The young girl was on the student council at her elementary school, so the neighbor thought the event would interest her, notes AZCentral. So a random visit to a political event resulted in Christina's death.

Christina also enjoyed other activities including baseball and ballet. Her uncle Greg Segalini told AZCentral that "She was real special and real sweet."

The murder weapon was a Glock 9mm with an extended magazine, notes the Daily Mail. What does it say about our country when a child is shot to death with a Glock? Soon enough we will hear whether the gun was obtained legally or not.

A total of six people were shot to death in the incident in Tucson. It is not yet known if all of the shootings were random, or if the gunman had planned to kill certain people at the event.

May this young beautiful innocent child RIP along with a gentle grandmother, a judge, and three other innocent lives drastically ripped away by a maniac who purposely bought a gun to destroy lives. May the families of the deceased and injured find some comfort and peace in this horrible unwarranted tragedy.

My heart is crying. This did not have to happen. Whatever set the murderer(s) off (whether it was Sarah Palin's bullseye map or a political opponent urging people to shoot automatic rifles or anything else), they should not have been able to get hold of a gun so easily. We need BOTH gun control and better people control. People need to have a deep sense that violence is NOT a solution to anything.

i am so upet by this - and this makes it worse "Republican challenger Jesse Kelly held fundraisers where he urged supporters to help remove (congresswoman" Giffords from office by joining him to shoot a fully loaded M-16 rifle. Kelly is a former Marine who served in Iraq and was pictured on his website in military gear holding his automatic weapon and promoting the event." Really???? WTF? And so a nine year old girl had to die?

If other people had been armed it wouldn't have been as bad, an he may not even have attemped it at that point. This story was written poorly with hardly any info on the shooting.

Those posting their thoughts on this event has depicted accused as being distrubed, unbalanced, or nut. Now a pattern of pyschosis behavior is being offered by the media as I type. Let the man and his physical problems be brought out inside the court room; where eventually, his fate will be determined. All of us need to pray that every individual citizen will allow every accused the right of being innocent until proven guilty by the court, not by public opinion. To those families who lost loved ones, my condolence goes out to them. It is during these moments in life that remind us of our dependency upon God and the reality that life is brief and death is sure; no matter how old or young one may be. These are earth's losses and heaven's gains. May the God of Peace be with you all.

Thank you for focusing on the little girl involved in this awful shooting. Not much has been spoken about her, cheers for the reporting and prayers for her family, too!

We don't know why this nut did what he did. It probably has nothing to do with pollitice, maybe he didn't like Safeway's parking lot, we don't know. There isn't much that can be done to stop illegal gun sales, just like we can't stop drugs traffic. Don't blame the gun, blame the guy who used the gun.
