Christmas Activities in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Missy Slink
Christmas should be filled with holiday activities, decorations and cheer. For many families this means picking out a Christmas tree, helping dad hang up the Christmas lights, and decorating a village of gingerbread houses. For others it means waiting hours in line for the chance to sit on Santa's lap, and still for others it means donning on sheep's costumes and participating in a nativity pageant. For anyone who finds themselves near Tulsa, Oklahoma this Christmas season, here is a list of activities that the whole family will enjoy. Be sure to check out these activities and destinations while you are in the area.

1) Rhema lights is a huge attraction every year. With new and better Christmas light displays and arrangements each year, Rhema's lights are worth the wait to enter and park. Although the cold winter winds of Tulsa may discourage many families from attempting to brave the weather and enjoy this spectacular Christmas light display, the huge crowd that gathers to view Rhema's lights every evening of the season is testimony to the quality of the display which is well worth enduring the cold to enjoy.

2) The Philbrook Museum of Art, between Peoria and Utica, is best visited during this holiday season, as the entire museum grounds are covered with a classy display of Christmas lights and decorations. In an effort to encourage more people to enjoy the Philbrook's elegant display of Christmas décor, the museum has announced special hours on Thursday and Sunday evenings, with extended hours until 8 p.m. All lights will be on during these extended hours as well.

3) Although all Christmas plays at churches are wonderful, Victory Christian Center's Christmas pageant is particularly spectacular. The huge production is very entertaining and thrilling for the whole family to watch, with quality lighting, acting, and a wonderful stage set. This year's production is titled "One Divine Moment." Although not the same as the Christmas pageant, Victory also offers a wonderful Christmas Eve communion service.

4) Finally, the Winterfest held in Tulsa at the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa is certainly a lively place to enjoy a holiday evening. With an outdoor ice skating rink perfect for beginners and more advanced skaters alike, Oklahoma's tallest outdoor Christmas tree, lovely Christmas light displays, quality nightly performances, and delicious concessions, Winterfest 2009 is a "must-attend" for anyone in the Tulsa area. Ice skating (including ice skates) costs $8 per adult, and $5 per child. Tickets prices to the performances in the BOK Center vary depending upon the performance and seat. Free parking is available across the street from the center.
