Christmas Advent Devotions Day 1 and 2

Deborah paulino
Day 1 Jesus created the world

Read John 1:1- 3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made."

Who is this talking about? ___________________________ (Jesus)

Jesus was with God in the beginning of creation and He created the world by speaking it into being.

Now read Genesis 1:1-3

Have each family member take a turn reading the following verses:

Read Genesis 1:6 and 1:9 and 1:11 and 1:14 and1:20 and 1:24 and1:26-27 and 1:31

Why do you think Jesus is called "The Word"?

Craft: Using clay or playdough make a model of the Earth

Day 2 From the Beginning, Jesus' coming to earth is foretold by God to Adam and Eve

Talk about what happened in the Garden of Eden:

Adam was told not to eat of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil

God created Eve as a wife for Adam

The serpent came and tempted Eve to take a bite of the Fruit from that tree

Eve took the fruit and after biting it, gave it to Adam to eat.

They hid but God called them out.

God punished them for their disobedience to His one rule.

Read in the book of Genesis CH3: 14 and 15

"And the LORD God said unto the serpent, because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; unpon thy belly shall you go and dust you shall eat allthe days of your life And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between your seed and her seed, it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. "

Talk about how the punishment of the serpent, who was satan, was to bruise the heel of the child of the woman, but HE would bruise the head of satan.

This is talking about when Satan would get Judas to betray Jesus, but after Jesus was crucified and rose again, Jesus would destroy Satan and his power.

Read Genesis 2:9.

"And out of the ground made the LORD God every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; The tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil."

Who represents the Tree of Life?

Read John 14:16 Jesus saith unto him, Iam the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Activity: Make a tree out of Construction paper, this tree will represent the other Tree in the Garden. This is the Tree of Life. This represents Jesus who came to give us eternal life.
