Handmade Christmas Cards and Christmas Card Quotes

Teresa Mahieu

Many scrapbook enthusiasts, crafters and artists enjoy making handmade Christmas cards to send out to family and friends. Many times these cards are family traditions or an artist's little piece of art gifted during the holidays. Your holiday greeting cards list may have dwindled over the years with e-mail becoming so popular. Store-bought greeting cards prices are rising right along with everything else each season. With money tight in many households this year, why not try starting a handmade Christmas card tradition of your own? You will find this creative time around the table both fun and inspirational and a great way to connect with your loved ones during the busy holiday season. Suggest a handmade Christmas card swap with family and friends and get busy looking out for the perfect papers and embellishments.

The Basics

Blank greeting cards can be purchased at hobby and craft stores such as Hobby Lobby and Michael's. They are also available at Walmart and some dollar stores. No money to buy blank cards? Not a problem. Cut and fold card stock or recycle and use last year's Christmas cards. Add a coating of gesso or glue a pretty paper over the front and inside of a heavy magazine page or used greeting card and you will have a blank canvas to create on. Use regular paper or any sturdy decorative paper to create your own envelopes too. Many different envelope templates can be found on-line or carefully take apart an envelope you already have and create a template of your own. Re-purposing and recycling is a key to keeping this holiday season a thrifty one.

Embellishments

Those leftover wrapping papers from years past or your children's art projects from school may be the perfect artwork for your cards cover. Scrapbook enthusiasts are sure to have many Christmas-themed papers already in their scrap-booking supplies as well as rubber stamps and stickers. The seamstress may have holiday-themed fabric scraps and rickrack or ribbons in appropriate colors for embellishing the perfect Christmas card. Family pictures make great embellishments, too.

Quotes

Now that you have gathered your handmade Christmas card supplies and created the perfect cards, what will you write in them? That perfect quote may be right there in your heart just waiting to flow onto your creation but if not use one of these quotes instead.

From Norman Vincent Peale:
Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.

From Charles Schulz:
Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone. (This quote would be great inside a money card or a card with "gift of self" certificates enclosed.)

From J.H. Fairweather:
Christmas...A day when cheer and gladness blend
When heart meets heart and friend meets friend.

From Author's Unknown:

Outside: Warm Winter Wishes
Inside
: May the closeness of friends and the comfort of home, renew your spirits this Christmas.

If you got everything you wanted for Christmas where would you put it?

For Cousins:

Cousins who are nice like you... Are great to be related to!

Merry Christmas (Judy)

Outside: This Christmas card brings love, dear cousin
And special wishes too
Inside: That now and always you'll have the things
That mean the most to you

For Family and Friends:

Christmas time wishes
For warmth and good cheer
Happiness now and in the New Year

Friends are the chocolate chips in the cookie of Life
May you be blessed with the love of many friends
this Holiday Season and throughout out the New Yew Year

Card and Quote Idea for Moms: Surprise mom this holiday season with this card.

Outside: A picture of a snow covered street, country road or Hwy (preferably the one leading to mom's house).
Inside: I'll be home for Christmas.

Inspirational:
Outside: Light is come into the World...
Inside: May His light abide within your heart this Christmas and through out the New Year.

Little Prayer be on your way...Bless all our friends this Christmas Day

With the Holiday Season quickly approaching and colder outside temperatures prevailing now is the time to start preparing handmade Christmas Cards created so lovingly by you and your family. They are sure to be treasured by all who receive them. I hope the Christmas Card Quotes listed here will help you on your way to creating that perfect card for a dear friend or loved one. Happy Holidays!
