Christmas Carol CDs: Eclectic, Golden Holiday Music

An Eclectic Mix

Suzanne Bennett
A Charlie Brown Christmas, Vince Guaraldi

I have a lot of nostalgia for Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas. I remember the first time the special came on TV. I guess I was about two. I remember the living room, the tree, and how much fun it was to watch this special. It was a big event back in the days when cartoons like Bullwinkle were on prime time!

Track List:

O Tannenbaum

What Child Is This?

My Little Drum

Linus and Lucy

Christmas Time Is Here (Instrumental)

Christmas Time is Here (Vocal Version)

Skating

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

Christmas Is Coming

Fur Elise

Christmas Song

Greensleeves

Christmas Through the Years, Louis Armstrong

I don't have this exact CD. I have a cheap compilation of jazz Christmas Songs called A Swingin' Soulful Christmas, but I got it out of a dollar bin years ago. This was the closest thing I could find online. I picked it because it features Louis Armstrong's hilarious, Zat You Santa Claus? An all time favorite!

Track List:

Christmas In New Orleans

"Zat You, Santa Claus?"

Hello Dolly

Blue Moon

"Baby, It's Cold Outside (w/Velma Middleton)"

Gone Fishin' (w/Bing Crosby)

Santa Claus Blues

A Kiss To Build A Dream On

The Night Before Christmas

What A Wonderful World

Christmas Guest, Andy Griffith

When I was a child, we welcomed Andy Griffith into our home room every week, and he appreciated it! He was like a member of my family! So, for me and lots of other late baby boomers, this CD really is like having a welcome Christmas guest. It is an enjoyable mix of traditional hymns, carols, and a taste of bluegrass and storytelling from a friendly, familiar voice

Track List:.

The Christmas Guest (Story) - Andy Griffith & Grandpa Jones

Joy to the World

O Come, O Come Emmanuel/What Child Is This?

Jesus' Birth in Bethlehem, Luke 2 (Story)

I Wonder as I Wander

Jesus Walked That Lonesome Valley

Belleau Wood (Story) - Andy Griffith & Garth Brooks

Silent Night

Merry Christmas, Have a Nice Life, Cyndi Lauper

I have had this CD for several years. I just loved Cyndi Lauper with her first hit, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! We all went around looking like we cut our hair in the dark with a weedeater back then (the 80s) and she was an inspiration! This CD is a fun mix of silly, pretty, funny, inspirational and traditional. I enjoy it during the holidays every year.

Track List:

Home on Christmas Day - Cyndi Lauper, Hyman, Rob

Early Christmas Morning

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Cyndi Lauper, Marks, Johnny

Christmas Conga

Minnie and Santa

Feels Like Christmas

Three Ships - Cyndi Lauper, Traditional

In the Bleak Midwinter - Cyndi Lauper, Holst, Gustav

James Galway's Christmas Carol, Flutist, James Galway

This is another CD that I have had for several years and enjoy tremendously every holiday season. Beautiful and tradition , it features the fabulous James Galway playing flute and conducting (if you can imagine) The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Singers, and the Chapel Choir of King's School, Canterbury. This is an excellent choice for a quiet Christmas eve by the fire.

Track List:

Silent Night - James Galway, Gruber, Franz

Shepherd's Pipe Carol - James Galway, Rutter, John

Air - James Galway,

Fantasia on "I Saw Three Ships" - James Galway, Overton, David

I hope you will give some of these a try. I think you will enjoy them. I know I do. They are all available on Amazon, and I have put them all together in one place for you to make it handy. Just click the top link in the resources box to quickly find these CDs and a few more.

  • The first airing of A Charlie Brown Christmas was a big TV event. We all tuned in!
  • Andy Griffith ended every show in the first season with "I appreciate it, and good-night!"
  • Don't miss Louis Armstrong's "Zat You Santa Claus?" :D
On James Galway's Christmas Carol, the renowned flautist both plays the flute and conducts the orchestra! Hard to imagine!
