Christmas is Coming! Ways to Prepare for the Holidays Now!

The Holidays Are Coming, Here Are Some Ideas to Help Get You Organized

Before you know it, Christmastime will soon be here. For many of us, the planning and preparations for this special time of year are full of stress and overload, to the point that we don't get to enjoy most of the holiday. Well you can claim your holiday season back! Here are some tips to help you enjoy the holiday season, while still doing everything that you like to do.

Start Christmas Shopping Now. Some people Christmas shop year-round and this may or may not be your style. For some of us with small closets and little space, this is an impractical idea. But if you can get your Christmas shopping started in August or September, you have a strong chance of finishing by the end of October. This means going to the malls and shopping centers when they have regular traffic, not the masses that come out for the holidays. It also means that you have that wonderful luxury: precious time. If you don't find the perfect gift for your sister this week, you can find it next week. For the budget conscious (which is really most of us) it also means that you can pay for one or two gifts for every pay period, instead of stressing about a maxed out credit card bill coming in January or February for the coming year. Think about all of the festive things you could do this holiday season instead of going to the malls stressing about gifts. That's a lot!

Think About Holiday Decorations. Take a weekend day and go through the holiday decorations. See which strands of lights work and which don't. Obviously throw out what doesn't work. Decide what Christmas decorations you'd like to replace and start brainstorming about where you could find them. The stores are starting to stock Christmas decorations now, and there is a wonderful selection for early birds. Get your family involved in making these decorating decisions and decide what you want to do. Store your decorations in a warm or cool (depending on what you have) and dry place while waiting for Christmas.

Select your Christmas cards. So many stores now have their Christmas cards available. You can even order personalized cards if this is your choice. Some stores even have clearance cards from last year, something to look out for! Why not get your cards now and put them in a save place.

Write Your Christmas Letter. You can probably get most of your Christmas letter done ahead of time. You may want to add in some little touches by the time we get to December. But family news from this year has already happened. You may even have a family photo that you like and will want to use for the layout. If you are really satisfied with the way it looks, get it printed and ready to go. Keep it with the Christmas cards.

Plan Your Christmas Party. Many people have a Christmas party during the holidays. This can be a great time to look for new recipes, get decorating ideas and go over your invitation list. You can think about what you would like to do differently and what you would like to keep from last year's celebration.

Decide on Charitable Giving. Christmas is really a time to give to others. Many charities send out appeals and it can be somewhat overwhelming. Now can be a great time to think of what charities you would like to make an end of the year gift to, and either make your gift or just keep the information handy.

Being prepared can help you plan for a wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas!
