You can make a pine cone Christmas tree using a pine cone, string or ribbon, glue, green paint and some decorative beads or other add-on materials. All you need to do to make a pine cone Christmas tree is cut about 6 inches of the ribbon or string and glue it to the top of the pine cone. This string will be what you hold as you start painting the pine cone with a green paint which will give it more of a tree appearance. Once you have painted the pine cone green, while it is still wet you can use decorative materials such as beads or other items to stick on to the pine cone. The idea of using wet paint works best because then you will not need to glue every item down that you want to put on the pine cone tree because the paint would be the adhesive. Once the green paint is dry, you can add some white cotton balls onto it by stretching the cotton balls out to look like snow on the tree branches. You can also add some small buttons, maybe red and green to decorate your tree. Once you get to the pine cone tree decorations, it is unlimited the items around your house you could use. You could also use a small beaded necklace to go around the pine cone tree which would be similar to the beads they have you can buy for your real Christmas tree.
If you like angel decorations and crafts, you could also use the pine cone to make an angel. For this angel pine cone you will need some silver or gold paint spray, glue, Spanish moss, ribbon, the pine cone, and a 1-inch wooden or soft ball head. You first off need to choose which end you want to be the head either the bigger or smaller end of the pine cone, because you will need to know how to decorate the pine cone based on this. For this simple angel pine cone all you need to do is first, lightly spray the pine cone with the silver or gold paint to make the angel look glittery. After you painted the pine cone, you will need to cut the ribbon of your choosing into a 5 inch long piece. You are going to take the ribbon and use the spray paint or glue to attach the ribbon onto the back half of the pine cone, pinching the middle to make two separate wings. Also, for the wings you can also use other materials besides the ribbon and you can select any color or design you want if you do not want a plain white angel wing. Take the wooden or Styrofoam 1-inch ball and place it on the end in which you have already designated to be the head. You can then add on a face to the wooden ball, with permanent marker or even just simply a pen. For the face, you can choose which facial expressions you want the pine cone angel to have and you can really get creative for this if you are doing one for each member of your family. Do not limit yourself on the expressions you can come up with and you can make each expression personal for each family member who is making a pine cone angel. Lastly, use the glue to attach the Spanish moss hair and then use a small wreath or a bread tie to make the halo and attach it to the hair with a small amount of glue.
Another great idea for a Christmas craft using a pine cone is to make a wreath out of pine cones. You can make this wreath using pine cones as a Christmas craft to give to a loved one or just to stick on your front door, and it is really easy. All you need is about 6 pine cones, a wire or metal coat hanger, decorations like bows and ribbon for Christmas, some glue or a hot glue gun, and also some glitter and silver spray paint. First thing you want to do is take your coat hanger and unravel it so you can make a circle out of it, using tape or the hot glue gun to join the two ends of the hanger together. Using the hot glue gun or other strong adhesive glue, you will then put the desired amount of pine cones around the coat hanger wreath. You do not have to make the pine cones go all the away around the wreath, but can stop and add a pretty red bow in the middle if you would like to help decorate the wreath. Once you have placed all your pine cones on the coat hanger wreath, you can spray the pine cones with some gold or silver spray paint to make them pop a little more and give some nice flair to the wreath. After the spray painting you then are free to decorate the pine cones with whatever you would like, adding some white paint to the ends of the pine cones would give a snow effect to them and spice them up some. The decoration of the wreath with the pine cones can be simple, such as some festive bows and ribbons around the wreath or you can add some colorful sequences or beads to the pine cones to make it look like a decorated tree. You would be surprised at how many small items you have around your house that you could use to decorate your wreath. This would be a really fun idea for someone who likes art and especially if you want to get the children involved in decorating.
