Easy Cinnamon Stick Reindeer Pin Craft
Tools and Materials
fine tip markers
white craft glue (optional)
mini hot glue gun
glue sticks
cinnamon stick
small red pom pom (for nose)
brown pipe cleaner
pin back
Procedure
Draw eyebrows and eyes near the top of the stick. Use craft glue or a glue gun to attach the pom pom nose to the cinnamon stick. Let dry before handling.
Meanwhile, bend the tips, approximately ΒΌ inch, of the pipe cleaner back so the sharp edge folds on to itself. Fold the pipe cleaner in half and bend to form two or three curves on each side. Manipulate the pipe cleaner until it resembles a pair of antlers.
Carefully put hot glue inside the top of cinnamon stick. Stick the antlers inside the cinnamon stick. Let dry briefly.
Use a fine tip marker to add a friendly smile.
Use hot glue to attach a pin back to the back of the reindeer.
Reindeer Christmas Craft Tips and Variations
Cinnamon sticks vary in appearance, with some having a brittle, crumbly appearance. For this craft, look for sturdy cinnamon sticks with neat edges and a length of approximately two to three inches.
Consider using small wiggly eyes for a more whimsical look.
Make a gift bag decoration by gluing a clothespin, instead of a pin back, to the cinnamon stick. Use the reindeer clip to attach a label to a gift or seal a gift bag. This is particularly cute as a clip on a bag of reindeer food.
Homemade Reindeer Food
There are many versions of this recipe. However, it is important to avoid using glitter as it can pose a hazard to hungry animals outside. Tell your child a little food goes a long way because Santa's reindeer will visit many homes on Christmas Eve. Let him sprinkle an intermittent path of reindeer food in the yard. Flying reindeer have excellent senses and can detect even a small trail of their favorite food.
Reindeer Food Recipe
Ingredients
One to two adult handfuls of oatmeal
one teaspoon colored sugar, preferably red or green
Directions
Combine ingredients in a small bag. Fold closed and decorate with a cinnamon stick reindeer clip. If desired, add a small note with usage instructions.

- Use Glue as a Medium to Craft Embossed SurfacesCraft glue or hot glue can be applied to the surface of items to make an embossed pattern. Either one will work for this technique. I like craft glue for more intricate designs, but hot glue dries (cools) more quickly.
