Christmas Craft: Wooden Snowman

Fun Wood Craft Project

LC
Get in the spirit of the approaching holidays by making a cute wooden snowman. There's no better way to show your holiday spirit than to do a little bit of decorating. This wooden craft project is probably for the mid to more experienced crafters because you must use a jigsaw and a drill. If you do not have these tools at your house, maybe someone in your family can lend them to you.

Items you will need:

-ribbon (you choose the color, I went with plaid in red/green/black, will be used as a scarf for the snowman)

-craft paint in shades of: off white, black, orange

-1 regular crafting paint brush

-1 button (preferably black)

-pencil

-hot glue gun

-1 piece of craft string (the hay string looks nice, will be used to hang snowman by)

-12" piece of 1x2

-jigsaw

-drill and small drill bit (just big enough for the craft string to fit through)

Ok, now that you have gathered all the necessary items listed above, it is time to begin our fun Christmas Craft Snowman. On your 12" inch piece of 1x2 wood, simply do an outline of a skinny snowman with a hat on. If you feel as though you don't have the skills needed to draw the outline yourself, outlines can be found here for a free printout, including snowman stencils. But feel free to play with it, give it a try at least freehanded. You can't go wrong, as long as it resembles a shape of a snowman you will be just fine.

Next, after you have your outline of a snowman on your 1x2 piece of wood, you now need cut out your design with a jigsaw. Be sure to wear protective gear such as goggles and keep any dangly material out of the way. Such as long hair, long sleeves, etc.

Ok, now with the hard part out of the way, we can get to the next step which includes taking your small drill bit and drilling a whole side-to-side in the top of the snowman's hat. This will be the place where the craft string will run through and make a hanging hook. So make the drill hole just big enough for the string to pass through.

Ok, we now are done with the machinery tools and can get down to the fun stuff. Painting is next. Simply paint the hat with black, and the body of the snowman with the off white. I only paint the front of the craft, not the sides or back, just to make it more country looking. But if you prefer, you can paint all sides. It's up to you.

Let that dry and come back with your black paint and dab on two dots of black for the snowman's eyes. And make dots in a row to resemble a smile on his face. Now take the orange paint and brush on a carrot shaped nose. It's not hard at all, just draw a triangle on its' side.

Set aside and let dry again.

Ok, now on to the finishing touches. Take your craft string and run it through your pre-drilled holes in the snowman's hat. Tie a simple bow. Leave enough room so that a doorknob could pass through if that is where you are going to hang this snowman.

And now to wrap the ribbon (your choice of color, I chose red/green/black plaid) around the neck crease of your snowman. Simply tie it once in the front and dab a touch of hot glue under it to hold it in place. On top of the ribbon, take another dab of hot glue and stick the button of your choice on it. This gives it a simple extra touch of charm.

And there you have it. You snowman is ready to be hung up where ever you prefer to offer charm and holiday spirit to all who sees him.
