Christmas Crafts: College Football Themed Ornaments

A custom ornament is a perfect holiday gift for any sports fan! These fun college football themed ornaments can be customized with the recipient's name. Or, create dozens of these gems for an entire tree showcasing your favorite team.

For this project, you will need (per ornament):

- One clear glass ball ornament in any size desired
- Hot water
- Mild dish detergent
- Paper towels
- Paper cup
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a color that coordinate's to the team's colors
- College football themed scrapbook paper in a team of your choice
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Sponge brush
- Mod Podge or other style decoupage medium
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Ribbon in a coordinating color
- Newsprint sheets or a large sized drop cloth

Before constructing this college football themed ornament, cover the area in which you will be working with sheets of old newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth. Carefully remove the metal hanging cap from the glass ball ornament. Set the hanging cap aside for later use. Wash the glass ball ornament using a mild dish detergent and hot water. Rinse the ornament well. Dry the outside using paper towels, and then set the ornament upside down in a paper cup to air dry overnight.

Prime the entire outside of the glass ball ornament with a layer of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once this is done, paint the ornament using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a color coordinating with the college football team's colors. Dry for ten to fifteen minutes before adding a second coat of colored paint. If desired, keep adding paint coats. Dry completely.

Lay the college football themed scrapbook paper out flat on a self healing mat. Use a ruler and pencil to create a one inch wide strip that will wrap around the outside of the glass ball ornament horizontally, meeting at the back. Cut out the strip using a craft knife.

Apply a thick coat of decoupage medium or Mod Podge to the back of the college football themed paper. Adhere the paper strip around the painted ornament. Wipe away any excess glue with a damp paper towel. Let the ornament glue dry completely. Spray the ornament with Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray and dry overnight.

Heat up the hot glue gun. Attach the hanging cap back on the ornament with a dab of hot glue. Once cooled, cut a length of satin ribbon and thread it through the hanging cap. Secure the ribbon and hang the ornament, as desired.
