Christmas Crafts: Egg Carton Bells

Turn Egg Cartons into Christmas Bells!

Darlene Michaud
Save your egg cartons and turn them into wonderful Christmas bells that you can hang in your Christmas tree this holiday season. Making egg carton bells is a fun and easy craft that both kids and adults will enjoy. And it's a great way to recycle egg cartons.

Here is an image you can look at to get an idea of how your Christmas bells might look.

To make egg carton Christmas bells, you will need empty egg cartons, cord or yarn, small jingle bells, glue, scissors, a yarn needle, paint, glitter and whatever other craft supplies you want to use to decorate the bells, such as ribbon, holly, photo prints, etc.

Cut the egg carton so that each egg cup is separate. Then paint the cups as you wish. To make the painting step go quickly, use a wide craft paint brush so you only have to make a few strokes to cover each cup. You may want to paint the inside of each cup a contrasting color. When the paint dries, you can add painted details to each cup if you like.

After you paint the cups, you can decorate them with glitter. Glitter glue is a good option because it is not messy. You can also cut out printed photos and glue them to the bells. You can also glue on holly or ribbon bows or whatever you want.

Cut a piece of string or yarn about 6 inches long and tie a little jingle bell to one end. Then tie a knot in the string about an inch above the bell. Pass the other end of the string through the eye of a yarn needle. Poke a hole from the inside of the cup with the tip of the needle and pass the needle and string up through the top of the cup. Pull on the string until the knot meets the top of the cup. Then tie a loop in the top of the string so you can hang the bell in your tree. You can also hang groups of bells together on your front door.

If you want to make a bell wreath, you can glue a bunch of egg carton bells to a round piece of cardboard. Then you'll have a jingle bell sound each time someone walks through your door! You can see a photo of an egg carton bell wreath here to get an idea of how to design it.

I love bells! Thanks for a craft idea that even un-crafty me might be able to make.
