Christmas Crafts for Kids: Five Ways to Draw a Christmas Tree

David Farrell
Here is a really easy Christmas artwork craft you can do with your kids. The beauty of this simple craft is that even little kids can do most of the artwork. In this article, I will focus on how to draw a Christmas tree. I came up with five simple methods you can use to draw a Christmas tree.

Materials needed for Christmas Tree Drawing Craft:

White paper, colored paper, or construction paper

Crayons or markers

Scissors

Cookie Cutter (Craft Method #2)

Cereal box (Craft method #3)

Tape (Craft Method #3)

Mason square or hardcover book (Craft Method #4)

Drawing Christmas Tree Craft Method #1: Simple Christmas Tree.Draw a tall triangle on the paper for the tree and a rectangle below for the trunk. This simple Christmas drawing works best for little kids. Older kids may want a more sophisticated drawing.

Drawing Christmas Tree Craft Method #2: Use a cookie cutter as a stencil. A cookie cutter in the shape of a Christmas tree provides a great outline that your kids will find very helpful. Then all the kids have to do is color in the tree.

Drawing Christmas Tree Craft Method #3: Make a cardboard stencil. Cut the flaps from one side of a cereal box. Take the square and cut off three of the corners, each corner larger than the previous corner. Tape the cardboard triangles together to form a cardboard tree stencil (See illustration.)

Drawing Christmas Tree Craft Method #4: Use a mason square or corner of a book as a guideline. You can use a mason square or the corner of a book as a guide to draw the same figure as you would draw from the cardboard stencil. The plus on this method is you can draw as many triangles as you desire. Remove the book each time and draw the bottom line of each triangle. Older kids can do this whole craft by themselves; you may need to draw the outline for younger kids.

Drawing Christmas Tree Craft Method #5: Sketching a realistic-looking outline. You may need to draw the entire outline for your kids. Draw the tip of an arrow for the top of the tree. Then instead of drawing the stem of the arrow, have the bottom of the arrow open up into another layer of the Christmas tree drawing. I included a rough sketch of this design in the illustrations for reference. Then turn the drawing over to the kids to color in.

Uses of the Christmas Tree Drawing Craft:

The Christmas tree drawings can be hung up on the walls for relatives to see when they visit. The kids will be proud of the work they have done and will enjoy showing it off to their loved ones.

The drawings can also be cut out from the paper and taped up on the windows or doors as a decoration. A hole can be made in the top of the drawing and a piece of colorful yarn can be used to allow the drawing to hang from the Christmas tree as an ornament. These may not be the longest lasting ornaments, but they are free and when they fall apart, then it's time for this fun craft all over again.

Another great use for the drawings is to make homemade Christmas cards. The first method involves cutting the drawing out and gluing it to the Christmas card. Otherwise, the drawing can be drawn onto the left side of a sheet of paper, which is then folded in half to make the card. Either way, this original card will put a huge smile on the face of a relative this Christmas.
